"Sales of music fell at a faster rate in 2007 than 2006 despite digital sales soaring, and the gatekeepers of the Web must act if the industry is to beat piracy, the international trade body said on Thursday.
Global digital sales grew by around 40 percent in 2007, the IFPI group said, but this was not enough to offset the sharp fall in CD sales, meaning the overall market is expected to be down around 10 percent for 2007.
As part of its response, the industry is calling on Internet service providers to take more responsibility for illegal file sharing by either disconnecting those who repeatedly upload music or preventing illegal tracks from being downloaded."

I'm amazed it was only 10% but they still cant put together people are free to buy just a single song that they like rather than a whole album with only one song that they like.

medwardl..I agree.
My only other comment is that really, no one actually "buys" a song as far as the RIAA is concerned. It defies the usual meaning of "ownership" in that, one is , in the RIAA's opinion, unable to do with the song as you wish. If I buy a coat, I can give it away, I can let others use it, I can burn it...but, the way the RIAA sees it, basically your money licenses you to personally listen to the song...just about any other usage or repurposing to them is a copyright infringement.

Every day that they refuse to face reality and continue to place all the blame on the imaginary pirates is another day that music moves forward without them.

Of course music sales are down every year. Every year, they cut scores of artists from their rosters. Every year, they release less music. Every year, they piss of more and more of their customer base. It only stands to reason that, every year, their sales will be down from the prior year. Duh.

That's right RIAA, keep ignoring the REAL reason behind the problem. Here you have digital sales soaring but all you can do is whine about CD sales going down....Get your F'ing heads out of your asses and realize your customers like FREEDOM TO CHOOSE!
