There has certainly been heated discussion
in Democratic and progressive circles about
this. Some argue this person should be
unhired, others make a fair case about guilt
by association. The discussion really hasn't
been about the RIAA itself. I haven't heard
anybody defending them. There's pretty near
unanimous agreement the RIAA is no good.
So the issue is - do we Democrats want a
person who has done public relations for the
RIAA doing convention PR for us?
I would urge fellow commenters not to form
impressions about the entire Democratic
Party based on the hiring of one person.
I might add that there are divisions within
the party. And those of us in the movement,
who are fighting to "democratize" the party
and force the establishment to be responsive
to people powered politics, would love to
have help rather than scorn. What we're
about is summed up well in the book
"Crashing the Gate" by Jerome Armstrong and
Markos Moulitsas.
