Plan on selling your CD ANYWHERE? Want to put it up on iTunes? You will need a UPC. This can cost over $700 as each publisher needs to pay an exorbitant registration fee. . . Lucky you, we've already done that! So get a upc for cheap!
$27 non-subscribers/ $15 subscribers

Most legit duplication houses provide this gratis. This is like paying for shrink wrap on a CD seperately. It isn't necessary.

What if you duplicate your own?
Duh?

Ps: gratis = 1250.00 for 1,000 cd's that you propbably overordered by 925 units, when CDbaby or amazon only asked you for 20.

If you duplicate your own, you're likely a very low volume duplicator, and you won't likely be selling them in the stores anyway, or need to track them with Soundscan. I wouldn't buy a CD-R, as they do not have the lifespan of a pressed CD.
BTW, my last CD press order was 5k units, and it came out to .89 a disc.

" Want to put it up on iTunes? "
I THINK this is the point.
It's an inexpensive way to be able
to put YOUR stuff next to the majors
online.
Myself, I wouldn't want to mess with
selling CD's, I'd just like to put a couple
of tunes online for sale, and see how
they fly.
