Britney blasted for bobbling baby
May 19, 2006. 04:47 PM
ASSOCIATED PRESS

NEW YORK — Britney Spears stumbled outside a Manhattan hotel, nearly dropping her eight-month-old son and further fuelling the ever-growing media scrutiny of her parenting skills.

In photos splashed across the front page and inside the New York Post on Friday, the 24-year-old pop star is shown exiting The Ritz-Carlton hotel with Sean Preston in one hand and a glass in the other.

As her bodyguards walked Spears to her car, she stumbled — her long pants apparently getting tangled in her open-toed shoes — and bent low as Sean Preston's head flung backward, knocking off his orange hat.

Spears, though, was able to keep her balance and hold on to her son, with help from a bodyguard, who reacted quickly.

A call to Spears' publicist Friday seeking comment was not immediately returned.

The baby bobble was the latest public incident involving the safety of Spears' child. Earlier this week, she was photographed driving with Sean Preston in a car seat facing forward rather than facing backward, which some safety regulations say is best.

Spears, who recently announced that she's pregnant with her second child, was visited by a sheriff's deputy at her home in Malibu, Calif., last month after Sean Preston slipped from his nanny's arms as she was lifting him from a high chair and something in the chair snapped.

In February, authorities visited Spears' home after photos showed the singer in a car with her son in her lap, instead of being strapped to a car seat in the back seat. She first blamed pursuits by the paparazzi, but later said it was a "mistake."

I wonder what the Las Vegas odds are of this kid surviving to its 10th birthday?

While I do despise this Spears,
This is BS.

I raised twin girls, and sometimes, shit happens. As careful as you can be, shit happens.

Leave her alone, her life is already screwed up enough :) (Smile)

"Oops, I did it again!"
(good one, K3VIN)

I'm with leflaw on this one.
She's not been that careful with how she conducts her own life, so why should we expect her to be that careful with her baby's?

I can appreciate public sensitivity on matters regarding child safety.
Wasn't it upsetting how Jacko was careless with his kid?

why?? do you know britney?

I'm sure none of us listen to the media hype about this. after all we all know how the media distorts the file sharing conroversy and can't be trusted in other types of hyped up gossip reporting... unless they say something we want to hear or agree with (hence the populatity of FOX news).

It's one thing to criticize her for her singing syle (she has none) or to blast the marketing of an underage teenage sex object for men to drool over, but her parenting abilities are not know by anyone especially those in the media.

So I know that all of us here are very intellegent, compassionate, and logical individuals who are basing their views of her personally as a mom solely on our first hand knowledge and/or our careful investagation of the total facts and not mearly jumping onto the bash Britaney bandwagon the Paparizzi and media (which we claim to distrust) are promoting.

Or are we??

"...not mearly jumping onto the bash Britaney bandwagon..."

What if you never saw her as more than a Disney production and always bashed her? Now we're supposed to feel sorry for her and stop?

She got years of good publicity for doing nothing special. Now she's getting bad publicity for the same reason.

It's merely the universe self-correcting.

I agree with you to a point george. Ying yang. karma and the like. it is true and perhaps it's something the artificial fame she's enjoyed has it's price to pay.

I'm very old fashioned when it comes to parents and children. one of the few things that will instantly set me off is when someone questions my parenting abilities or criticizes the decisions my wife and I make for our children. I know I make mistakes (lots of them) and I have many faults. but that should never reflect on the love a person has for their child. All parents make bad mistakes or don't think things through at times.

My only point is that I like to Bash Britiney too when it comes to her talent and abilities but I personally believe that her (or anyone elses) parenting abilities should be off limits unless there is actual proof (Not out of context photography or honest mistakes) from someone in the know of the child being endangered.

While I could care less about Miss Britney (as I have called her since about 1999), my problem is this.

We live in a society now where if you so much as pop your child on the hand for picking up something in the store, then you get a visit from child services the next day. You hear about people on the news having their children taken away from them because the parents left them at the house alone while they went two blocks to the store for a pack of cigarettes. I mean, the smallest offense will get a child taken away now.

But why not Spears' child? Hmmm? She was driving with the kid in her lap. Where I come from, which is the real world, that's worth a big fine (like that would matter to Miss Britney anyway, but hear me out) and you're lucky to even see your child again. And she's allowed to keep him?

The penalty for setting yer baby facing the wrong way is a $150,000 fine! er um no, ... thats the penalty for DLing mp3s.....
I think such nickpicking is simply cheep and tasteless publicity. Let Child Protective Services do their job if need be without the public being judges and the mass media being the witness.
Britney may be my favorite RIAA-backed act to pick on, but if she's in the market for an excellent father for her next few kidz.... ;) (Wink)

My take:
There are a number of things she's done within the past several years that smack of lacking responsibility or good judgment.
Plus the fact that she's practically talentless doesn't help.
