In The News - 04 April 2006 Edition
Posted by OtherMike (Shmoo) in on April 4, 2006 at 11:27 PM

Folks, you are all encouraged here to provide links to anything you find on the web that would be of interest to our readers.

There's no need to copy & paste the whole thing. (Just give a html/url link to the news article (or other item) along with a brief headline or description.)

Shorten lengthy url links by using the "EZ" hyper-text trick:

[url= hxxp://link]Title or comment goes here[ /url]

1. REMOVE the space after "[url="
2. REMOVE the space before "/url]"
3. TRADE "hxxp://link" with the actual html link you are providing.
4. TRADE "Title or comment goes here" with the title of the article or your brief description/comment (this will be what becomes the clickable blue text.)

Keep the stories and other items comming! I will go to the "front page" with anything you submit that needs to be there!

For those people who use P2P file sharing, there is a free, helpful utility called "PeerGuardian 2", which effectively blocks government sites from watching your P2P activities, as well as those who report to the government.

Had I had the ability to do so, I would donate all the money extra to my income to this site. But I wish to donate to this site a small token of appreciation, an idea, that I hope will be useful for the of the anti-RIAA cause:

This one may spark a lot of controversy, here and otherwise..
Trailer for 9/11 movie sparks cinema protest

The movie United 93 is upon us....are we ready for it?

I'm ready for an explanation why there were no
jet engine remnants from any of the four crashes. And why NTSB refuses to acknowledge possession of any of the black boxes. And .... it just goes on and on.
I doubt this movie will shed any light on what really happened.

Go to the "Off-Topic/Open Thread" with any chit-chat about that. (Sounds like fun to debate, but doesn't belong in an ON-Topic thread.)

Hi Shmoo....United 93 is going to be in the news for some time, maybe move it to the front as a hot button issue???

I think this got lost at the end of the last in the news. Its a very well done video about
Trust and Trusted Computing. While it doesnt name ther RIAA it is about the computer industry and applies to the RIAA too.

"United 93 is going to be in the news for some time, maybe move it to the front as a hot button issue???"

I don't see how it is "Boycott-Riaa" related enough to do so. Sorry.

"I think this got lost at the end of the last in the news."

It is perfectly OK (and encouraged) for you folk to re-post something from a previous "In The News" thread into a NEW version "In The News" as/when needed.

(Thanks for doing so ron77. I don't really have the time to "do it all" by myself.)

Fun to debate? Painful is more like it.

Well, if the RIAA & associated industry wants to "stoop this low" I will be happy take it as a sign that they are going out of business soon:

Shmoo, from the published PDF file of the introduction to the plaintiff's motion (get a load of this crap):

"Every month, copyright infringers unlawfully disseminate billions of perfect digital copies of Plaintiff's copyrighted sound recordings over peer-to-peer ("P2P") networks . . ."

By the RIAA's own admission several years ago, they stated that file-shared MP3 versions of the original CD songs are not perfect digital copies by any means (in fact, that they are inferior).

NOW, they sing a different tune, obviously trying to impress the presiding judge.
Well, you know what, the attorneys represent the defendent(s) in this case need to call them on it.
But first they have to be aware (I wonder if we can assume they are)?

Netflix wants to shut Blockbuster online rentals

It seems Netflix can't stand a little competition so they've decided to sue the pants off of Blockbuster video.

Maybe the judge that hears this case will smell the stink of monopoly hanging over Netflix and throw out the case while at the same time voiding their "patents" on their service.

LOL. That takes the biscuit. The RIAA really do not seem to have a barrel bottom to hit. It's a deep dark endless hole of shame.
