Barenaked on a Stick!
Posted by ElectronicVan in on November 30, 2005 at 9:54 PM

The Barenaked Ladies are releasing a reusable 128 MB USB flash memory drive containing songs, videos, some killer live improv songs, and other cool stuff. The sticks are on sale now for $29.95 USD and $35 CND, which is roughly $5 more than you can find the same stick with no BNL goodness on it at computer store.

The sticks are on sale now at Werkshop.com. The sticks play on PCs, Macs and any other audio product with a USB port

Barenaked on a Stick has more than a bunch MP3s of holiday, live, and a demo of their track "Aluminum", it's got videos from the holiday recordings, buddy icons, and some cool shots of the band too.

From my own listening, I really dug the Best of the Ad Libs - "Diarhia of a Madman" was exceptionally choice. The live versions of BNL classics "One Week", "Brian Wilson", "Old Apartment", and of course, "If I Had a Million Dollars" were all great performances (but only encoded at 112kbps!). The holiday tracks are all stellar. The swirly rhodes version of "Carol of the Bells" is beautiful. "Christmas Pics" is perfect jazzy fireside accompanyment after 9,000 egg nogs, not that you'll need the liquor to enjoy it, mind you. Their cover of "Do They Know It's Christmas" even had the over dramatized

It's great to see artists doing stuff like this. BNL's tongue in cheek sense of humor suits taking a different path to their listeners. I've always been a fan, and this would make a great stocking stuffer for any BNL fan that you know (hint, hint).

What a freakin great idea. These guys were cool at the bars in Toronto in the early 90's and they're still cool (and fun loving nuts!) now.

BNL once shat on "our" side of the equation. Does this mean they are comming around?

(How much $$$ are these sticks and how much do they hold at 112k???)

...sorry. I certainly love the BNL's music/talent, but just because they found a "loophole" way to release RIAA "unwanted" trax doesn't "redeem" them to me yet.

...lol, but I'm a No RIAA! crumudgen.

"Bah, Humbug!"

"reusable 128 MB USB flash"

...hmm, now that MIGHT change my opinion about the stick itself a bit...

"which is roughly $5 more than you can find the same stick"

...yep, sounds like maybe BNL's are trying to do an "end-run" around the label???

only the live performances are 112, the rest are 128 or better. I'd prefer 160 at least, but hey, it's a sweet deal

I'll buy one IF the music is from one of the Dmusic artists, but NOT from an RIAA artist.

No RIAA!

Hey leflaw. Instead of forming a record company per-se, see if you can work out a deal with one of these flash/memory stick manufacturers for our artists.

Neat idea?

usually at 128 it is one meg per minute ... sooo at 128 they could hold 128 minutes but with they way things are stored it is probably 112 for 128 minutes :D (Big Grin)
