The Indie Bible 7th Edition is chocked full of good stuff, like really good stuff. What kind of good stuff? Well...4200 publications that will review your songs, 3400 radio stations that will play your songs, 600 vendors that will sell your CDs, 330 websites that will sell your MP3s, and 500 other resources to help you gain more exposure.
When I got this in the mail, this is probably the first time I received a book to review and I felt guilty for getting this for free. I poured through the radio stations listings, pulling up the website addresses, emailing the program managers...actually getting responses! I have bought other so-called industry listing directories in the past, but this one actually seems to be truly legitimate. The independent channels listed range from basement operations to full scale independent music operations that distribute worldwide.
David Whimble, the editor of this tome of goodness includes some very accurate common sense recommendations with the massive listings of contacts. Artists should understand that emailing ALL of the program directors that aren't in your genre will do you no good. As will sending your CD to everyone listed in the book. Spreadgun approaches in marketing rarely produce great results. But, fear not even someone like me that makes weird music found resources that I know will prove useful.
For $29.95, I can honestly say this is a good investment for a songwriter or band if you plan on using this information. The book is available online at
http://www.indiebible.com as well as major retailers such as Sam Ash, Guitar Center, Borders, Barnes & Noble, and Virgin Records. A new edition should be out shortly, so stay tuned!
