The idea here in THIS thread below is to INTRODUCE yourself! (It is NOT required that visitors/members participate in giving a bio, but I hope everyone does.) Remember, you can ALWAYS update by simply posting a NEW bio whenever you think of something new and wish to change the previous thing you said, (...or when you find that you misspelled something, need to rephrase, or whatever.)

I WILL keep an eye out and "zap" those previous bio/introductions for you. Think of me as your "edit button."

=============

Again, simple rule:

Only 1 post (the most recent) per username shall be retained on this thread!

(I WILL delete the old/previous posts every couple of days and/or whenever I am online and see that it needs done.)

==============

Please only bother to tell us what you want known. Your true name and other stuff that might be "sensitive info" is not requested, nor required. We'd like for you to share things such as: "why you choose to visit/participate at Boycott-Riaa" and "how long you have been a member/lurker" and "ideology regarding the music industry in this modern digital age" and etc.

Are you a musician, indie record label, music news hound, political/social activist, or other?

You know. That sorta stuff!

(Feel free to include any/all "links" to your own website(s) in your bio that you wish known to our readers. It won't be considered "spam" to do so when the site(s) reflect who you are and/or your views.)

Most of our long-time regulars already "know" each other, so please "aim" your 'bio/introduction' at the new visitor so they will have a clue as to who you are and "where you are comming from" and "where you stand" when they read what you write in the other threads.

Give us the relevant stuff! Make your bio/intro as long or as short as you desire. Update it as needed. Have/make fun too! (Just DON'T be rude to other members/participants!)

(PLEASE limit the use of any so-called "dirty words" and such.)

I am child in this world though I'm almost 21, bearing new and useful ideas that may affect the future of yours and my life as we know it. Armed with knowledge and strength from within, I seek music with a passion without worries. I share my passion with the rest of the world and hope that they too will thrive successfully. Be patient and the fruits shall ripen and you will be graciously thankful for my gifts to the world.

mechanismatic is just a screen name for me. I don't care what people want to call me. bastard usually works... :-) (Smile) I'm a music lover, student, and artist (non-musical, non-commercial) who believes in the necessity of widespread availability of inexpensive quality music.
I'm mostly only interested in politics when it directly affects me, or just illustrates the stupidity of greedy people -which is why I find the issues discussed on boycott-riaa interesting.

I'm Phil.

I support the idea of a paradigm shift away from the entertainment business's legacy operations. New technology sparks necessary change. Just like audio and video tapes sparked a positive change in their business practices, so must the internet also spark a positive change. Unwillingness or inability to change will inevitably end in failure.

I've been hitting this site on and off for a while, and got more personally interested when a reincarnation of the site was suggested.

I'm programmer, music lover, and bad guitar player.

-------

Don't hit me, but I've been looking at the riaa site. Their page is pretty tidy, if misleading and uninformative, but one page struck me as something b-riaa could counter. A list of artists supporting the b-riaa cause.

OK here I go. My name is Rick and I live on the Southern Oregon coast, about a mile from the ocean. I can sit on my porch swing in the evening and hear the ocean, when it's not raining of course.

I'm a middle aged father of 4 and own a small store. My father used to tell us when we were children "The one thing I hate most in the world is a liar, a thief and a cheat." Which is why he never had much good to say about politics. He was a die hard republican but I do not subscribe to the ramblings of any party. I'm registered independent and judge a person based on their words and actions, not their party affiliation.

I hate, repeat, hate dishonesty and corporate ethics (the two go hand in hand). Which is what lead me to this site. I love music but am not a conissour (I know, spellings awful).

I am called a conservitive by some and a liberal by others which is a badge I wear with pride.

I studied Theatre at a California University and began Graduate school in the same field in Arizona. My intent was to become involved with the entertainment industry but was too imature to handle the politics and beauracracy of the industry so spent the next 25 years raising a family instead.

I realize that I'll never be part of the industry I loved but I want to make some kind of impression by supporting reform that will allow the hard working artistist's and support staff in the industry to prosper in their field free from the domination of the mafia style tactics the industry uses.

Myself, I'm the underground Mixer Jaëxx. Founder of the ol' cyber shack called supportUG ( http://www.supportUG.com ). I'm 20-somethin', live in Florida (gawd I love it here!) have a beautiful girlfriend named Foxxy. (hottest and sweetest f*ckin' thang' I've ever layed my eyes on) I'm into creating underground eletronica, my main pimp bein' Reason. I also mix music, both remixin' and live mixin' and produce and write for fellow artists. And I love helpin' the underground out, of course.

Personal, non-music info... the good, I don't drink, smoke or do any drugs and never have, and I also volunteer my time to sick kids 'n' stuff like that. (I also hope to help mentor troubled kids in creating music on their PCs thru TechXplore.) My vices, though, are that I curse and have wild, freaky *** with my girl every chance I get and I do have a pretty bad temper when it comes to bein' on the road, or anybody lookin' funny at anyone I'm out with. But, what's the point of livin' life if you can't have some fun too? That would be me... simple, little 'ol bad ass Jaëxx.

But I sorta’ gotta’ explain the underground more, and what supportUG is about, because sUG and the underground are way more important than my ass. supportUG is an underground music supporting community web site. sUG’s principles are very similar to B-C’s and one’a the reason’s the two sites are buds (http://www.boycott-riaa.com/friends ) . sUG supports the underground, and so do many people (such as mostly all of you here on B-C), although the name of the underground isn’t always known for what it is, but you can usually always find it when people refer to “independent music”, “indy music”, “free culture music” and you get the gist. The underground’s a hard thing to define, so what’s less important is if everyone knows its name, and more important that people support it. (One’a the reasons I dig all ‘yall crazy b…) sUG is a place for both fans of the underground come to chill, and also a place for artists of the underground come to share their music and chill right along side their fans, on their level, as equals. (‘Cuz that’s how the UG rolls.)

If anyone wants to download my music (for free), check out my bio, send me a PM, check out sexy pix of me mixin’ or even sexier pix of me ‘n’ my girl… you know what to click---> http://www.supportUG.com/mixerjaexx Oh, and if any supporters who migrate over from sUG are here, or to any new supporters out here from B-C, if you wanna’ check out independentmusician and send him a PM (gotta’ be jacked in first), you can hit his gypsie-lovin’-butt here. http://www.supportug.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=profile&mode=viewprofile&u=17

Hi i'm Tom.
Some where over the rainbow. Kansas City area.
I grew up in the fifties and sixties in N.Y.C. iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii So many candles in the wind.
I'm an artist, had a few shows in the village years ago. They just did not understand my painting.
When I let my dog walk all over the wet oils. Those paw prints were just what it needed. Went to
a conflict back in 69-70. Took a stand in Washington with some vets while on leave in Apirl of 71
I think Apirl, too many years ago. Then went to Germany to 1972.

The year was 1971 when I started getting political. Civil Rights, the Environment the War. Taking samples of water
for the River Keeper from the Hudson river etc. Now the Content Cartel is becoming equal to the corporations
that have ecological impact of altering the environment. Our rights are being taken a way little by little.
Not only our content rights but our constitutional rights. As a Consumer. "One that consumes, especially
one that acquires goods or services for direct use or ownership". It seems to me, that it is only an appearance
of ownership that exist. That what we buy they still own. If the corporations keep getting their way with the Goverment.
We will own nothing it will be leased Only.

When I watched the political conventions on the boob tube. Not seeing any protesters there. It made me wonder
where they were, and why I was not seeing any. Yet they were there. Herded like group of cattle, kept together for
a specific purpose. Yet the news never said a word against it. It is really sad the way this country is going. What
even sadder no deplorable, is that the people did nothing about it. It is inconceivable that it even happen at all.
I'll never be sent to a cage surrounded by barbwire a mile away to protest a political event. I would go to jail first.
Just getting to be an old hippie with sociopolitical values.

Some say this site should only be Boycott Riaa yes and no. It is also a political site whether you know it or not.
You have to get involved with both sides of this issue. You just can not let the Content Cartel run in a frenzy
with the laws that they want. Let the house and the senate know how you feel. I think a petition about this cause
in every city that were in might help. With enough signatures it might do something. We are growing in numbers
every year.

Hello Gonarat here, Bill from Louisville, KY. I do not like the way the *AA's and the rest of corporate world is going.

I can't understand why they keep wanting more and more money when we only have so much to go around. My greatest fear is that the *AA's will get what they want as far as DRM and Copyright Laws, then wonder why we can no longer afford their stuff. The only solution I can see is to get off of their corporate merry-go-round now, and explore the Independent world.

Now, if I can get the rest of my family to think the same way...

Hmm, my spell checker flagged DRM as an invalid word...smart spell checker!

My love of music and the "road of events in life" are what led me here.

I am a musician who is the founder of a small-time local rock band called "Electric Gypsy" which has been playing under that name with various members since the early 1980's here in the hills of east Tennessee, USA.

I want change for the better, and I honestly think there is still a chance for "WE THE PEOPLE" to obtain it... but also, am a realist who see's that our foes have a lot of political, social, and market-place power.

I don't consider myself to be one of those "crazy socialist commie anarchists" who think that everything should be free, but I do believe in SANITY in regard to copyright laws and the applications/implications there-of.

The "state of things" has become far too corrupt in our country/society, but here at Boycott-Riaa, I primarily only want to focus on the MUSIC issue related topics that are a part of the much larger problem. ("Shoot only ONE target per bullet" my old Army drill-sergent once said...)

In the interest of disclosue, I will state that I am somewhat a "liberal" and/or "liberatarian" in my politics/social outlook/views, and I tend (but not always) to vote for the the "Democratic Party" when forced to pick between the lesser of two evils. (I see BOTH major US political parties as old-fangled and corrupt. Ideally, we would have NO political parties at all.)

...anyway, getting back to MUSIC issues:

I seek an end to the abuse of artists, fans, and to abuse of fair trade in the
music marketplace at the hands of the major-label monopolistic corporations who rally/hide behind the banner of the "Recording Industry Association of America." There are really just FOUR (mostly foreign owned) mega-corporations who co-operate/collude with one another to keep a strict, dominant monopoly over recorded (and now, increasingly also OTHER forms/expressions of) music in our culture.

So far, the best tool/weapon I have found that I can use against them has been this very forum called "Boycott-Riaa."

By myself, I am one lone, lost voice in the wilderness. But TOGETHER, we can be a mighty ROAR for fairness!

FROM THE INBOX:

great site you guys have here. As a musician for the band Cathar allow me to say that i am all for mp3 sharing. It spreads the word about bands. Why cant they just wake up and see that copying and bootlegging hasnt started with teh internet, just made it more in the open. I guess if i record a song from the radio onto a casset tape im a just as much a criminal as a guy who killed his child? Its rediculous.

As a point being made to the greedy bastards like metallica and the RIAA i make all my music available for download on a webpage for free. I also put it on file sharing networks. Hell i still make WAY more by doing shows than i ever made as a store manager.

Also tee-shirts and the liking make up for the money i dont get from cds.

Its enough to see the happy faces when somone listens to my music. Greedy bands have made music not abotu the fans, not about expressing yourself, not about being creative or having something to vent with.. but instead made it about money. Hell, I work a tech job AND make music. Ive even released 3 albums this year, and still had a life. Lars ulrich and those bastards to good to do that? They cant work a job and make music?

I know people who make 5.15 an hour with 3 - 5 kids. Single mothers even. Not only can they NOT afford to buy cds, but they barley make it. Single mothers with kids who work minimum wage jobs doing shit work that they hate just to make ends meet. Dont you think these people would love to get a thousand dollars a week? Just a thousand, which is WAY less than a famous musician makes. Its not like they need that fancy car, or that huge 126721789127308293 room house. Its ignorant.

But the fact is that they arent loosing that much money. If anything they are gaining fans.

All in all, just wanted to say nice work with the webpage and i support you!

Welcome, and glad to have you.
However ....
As been pointed out, Sharing copyrighted music can be ( depending on the music ) illegal. We don't, can't, endorse that. By having a shared list you are inviting a lawsuit, although the chances are small.
Don't share RIAA sponsored music.

Hello!

I am 24, can't play music, can't read music, and don't really care how it gets to me as long as it doesn't suck. Mainstream music really sucks and has for awhile now and the new business model of the RIAA is unjust, obvious, and ridiculously stupid. So to hell with them.

CD boycott: something like 4-5 years
FM Radio boycott: something like 4 years

It's not hard. It's like boycotting tuburculosis.

The RIAA is a great example of what's wrong with America today and the public's reaction to them is a great example of why it isn't changing. When it comes to bitching, we have all the free time in the world. When it comes to action.. well.. I'm sure somebody will do something... you know.. someone other than me.

Like compmore, people tell me I'm a liberal and a republican. As if I don't have enough contempt for the human race as it is, people insist I'm either one of two things and both groups of idiots are right, of course.

Other interesting things about me include the facts that I am an almost-graduate student, my life consists of my girlfriend, physics, math, and baseball, and that I don't post here anymore because I ran out of things to say but I still stand by all of it.

When I have kids, I will tell them that Dmusic is all that exists in the world, just like the RIAA has told us that they are all that exists.

Bye!

Currently I am busking across the sth. west of victoria Australia. I play guitar, but I have a bass string, I tune the 5th and the 6th string cello. 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th viola. I play tunes such as In the mood by Glenn Miller, Batman from the old series. Happy Birthday, and the list goes on for 3 hours. In Ballarat there is a T.V. station. One of the contributors to my busking was having an argument with a well known tv personality. The tvite was saying that I can't play the guitar. I'm not playing chords. The contributor was yelling "But he's playing Old Mac Donald had a farm. What kind of idoit are you?"
This is what I am up against.
The money I make from busking goes to World Vision
I only take the cost of fuel and strings etc. as my regular job does not allow me these luxuries. $4000.oo last financial year. to World Vision.
I have hundreds of songs to raise money for worthy causes, No one in Media Australia will give me the time of day. However the population dance in the street. From little kids who don't know any better, to 90 year old chinamen. One particular gent, dances up to me, (he's 92) drops 50cents in my case and says, "You make me hot."
Are you interested in helping me try to stop so much starvation etc. across the globe?
60 percent of people like what I do on guitar. In OZ that's about 120,000,000 people. If they all buy a CD @ $20.oo each, thats $240,000,000. I'm sure the market is larger. When I was in Bangkok a few months ago, In 5 minuites at a shopping centre, I had a crowd of 80 or more people. I had to stop. it was causing a disturbance and the cops were coming to see what the problem was. It was scarey. I bought the guitar the next day. $35.oo, as good as a fender, with a little dressing.
I believe music is for all to enjoy. Not to make fat buisnessmen richer.
what do you say? Do you know somewhere in Oz that I can get help? 100,000 people die every day from stavation related causes. I wan't to change that. that is my driving force.

Hi, Im Wayne and Im an alcoholic...
wrong site
I play guitar because I have to, not because Im good at it. My leads suck and I like the vibration, so in a band I prefer bass but learned more and write on guitar.
So being an equipment geek I set up the PA, have a badass stereo, and allways messed around with recording... then I discovered Winamp and CakeWalk. Now Im a PC geek. Im taking a break from trying to build a recording studio for hire. Some expiramental recordings are posted at Dmusic.
I started paying attention to politics in '74 as I watched the last hellicopter leave the American Embassy in Veitnam live and my father explained to me what MIA meant. Every single male in my family has seen combat.
My father played drums in a band as they coined the phrase rock -n- roll. No record deals for him back then but he drank with some names you'd know.
As a teenager, a band I was in was offered a contract, we passed and Im still glad (still poor and broke too). Ever since then Ive searched for a better way of doing business and now that a PC is in every home that day is here.
I am a single father with full custody of two musically inclined children. I hope for a better musical future for them weather they are simply fans or famous rockers. Ever see a house where the TV is on from morning until the last person goes to bed? We have music playing all day long like that.
yeah, thats right grrlz, single :D (Big Grin) Any groupies here?
I am against the filesharing of copyrighted matrials, there is a basic wrong there. However the $150,000 fine per mp3 doesnt fare well to the 10 cents the artist might get from an mp3 sale of one song. A $2 per mp3 with court costs would be a more fitting ticket for being caught speeding on the information superhighway. Filesharing is the Boston Tea Party of the Digital Age against a corrupt Music Cartel built on the wrong people holding the copyright to an artist's intellectal property. I still havent heard the porn industry complain about p2p....

To be honest I don’t consider myself all that good with just one (lol) I play because it makes me feel good. The reason I bring this up is because I think it is relevant. At no time in my life did I look at music as a way to make money. To me, that cheapens the art and renders it meaningless. Only a scumbag would charge people money for his tunes. We have entire generations of scumbags in this county living off the works of artists that have been dead for decades. I’m not saying you would never see me downtown on a corner playing my guitar (you just might) but you would never see me using music to get money. That to me is just disgusting. If you have a need, if your soul is lifted by playing music, isn’t that enough? If you are so pathetic that the only marketable skill you have is making music then you have found a true friend in the RIAA. This is why I won’t pay to go to a concert or why I haven’t bought a CD in more then a decade. Music should be free. A true artist should never charge money for his music. If you play because it makes you and everyone around you feel good, you are at artist. If you charge money for it, you are no better then a whore and if you are distributing those works, why, that makes you a pimp. I’m just waiting for the day when the entertainment industry tries to copyright the tones that make up our musical alphabet.

HA! Just to keep Mike on his toes...my name is ShadowMom, aka #7...I'm a mom, a music lover, and a heckuva spell-checker. I'm also a tree-hugging liberal disenchanted with the whole political process..but not yet willing to give up on it just yet. The reason I'm here is I hate the RIAA and big business in general, and because independents deserve a fair shot at success...and they won't get it as long as the recording industry has the money to prevent it. Go to DMusic and support independent music...music the way it was meant to be played.

I post here occasionally....I'm a middle-aged woman, physicist/software engineer in California, liberal, long-time music lover (ever since I saw the Beatles first play on Ed Sullivan in 1964), played in bands and studied music in my younger days, and I'm appalled at the actions of the RIAA and the growing corporatocracy that the U.S. is turning into. I would support independent music except that I'm stuck in the past and mostly listen to music of the 60s and 70s. Also, I'm very outspoken!

ok, like, I'm just an overgrown metal head...my songs are my childeren...I want them to travel the globe and entertain strangers in far off lands...thats my one, true goal...to be heard around the world. I had rock star dreams, and I still gotta say I'd love to be paid for what I do...why the hell not, less talented schmucks have surely accomplished this...but I think this digital age has brought on the newest, most important changes in the industry...who cares what I think??? I'm just happy to join the ranks of the boycotters and fight the evil empire. I believe in what I do. It has meaning for me and others. I wont sell out.
People, in general (like the RIAA's typical targeted market...) are sheep. I don't play music for sheep.
Pass the Smirnoff!!

I'm the CodeWarrior. I used to be here a lot, but now I'm not. Just wanted to say hi to ShadowMom, Independent, and all the rest, and to send out shouts to the one woman with balls enough to stand up in court to the RIAA,
the one, the only, Patricia Santangelo
http://www.afterdawn.com/news/archive/7101.cfm
"Patricia Santangelo, a mother of five who is being sued by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for copyright infringement has requested a trial by Jury. This is the first time that an RIAA lawsuit against an alleged Internet pirate is headed for trial. Santangelo refused to pay the RIAA's settlement center as she says she is completely innocent of these accusations. The likely culprit she says, is a friend of her children. "

Wulfgang, I don't want to post anyone's e-mail in here directly myself. You can post it yourself if you want. But be advised that bots troll the web looking for e-mail addresses constantly.
