Approximately two weeks ago the word blog was spotted on a users page (possibly fradonaghy's) instead of normally posting in their journal. GeneHilbert who has probably asked to be unnamed for which reason I don't know said this
''Blog is actually a hideously ugly word... Rant Blog: n. Short for weblog. zzzzzzzzz Yawning zzzzzzzzzzz zzz (Asleep)
Journal seems more elegant. Marilyn Monroe A place to write ones thoughts.''
The eliquent and well appreciated artist and user of the site dmusic, is not happy, along with other regular ''DM'ers'', Gene would like to be able to write in his journal once more.
As a Dmusic user and... I don't like the word artist here but I'll use it, I believe as the indie site Dmusic has always been infamous for being, shouldn't it stick to its guns and let its stomach hang out while all the new trendy good looking girls walk past with their blogs? Should we let the demand today run over our history and power as an underground, rebellious site fighting powers like the RIAA and now 'blogs'?
I guess thats up to admin to decide. I'm sure they will make the right choice.
Signing off

Ok……. seeing as how I'm singled out here - I'll reply......
I would not refer to my post or anybody else's I have read in the above referenced thread as “outrage”, unless I missed something..... That is much too strong a word. All I have read are opinions posted by users pertaining to semantics. To be quite honest - I could really care less what the "Journal""Blog" is referred to........ As well, I do believe when all is said and done - no one else is really that passionate about it either.… time will tell….
However, I'll stand by my opinion, as outrageously mundane as it is.....

I think it's funny that it became such a big issue, but I have to admit, I'm happy for this. Blog implies several things, especially that it's author is a self-centered snob, and that there's some sort of theme to the entries, which is rarely true around here.

I don't think it's funny that it became a big deal, I completely understand...
It's a flippin' journal... and it should stay that way...
There's no need in bitin' another sites style... That's the only reason the title was changed to "blog" in the first place... am I wrong?

To me, a journal is more like something only the author contributes to. A blog (ugly as some may think the word) is more "interactive."
...but no big whoop, in today's world, there are a gazillion varieties and flavors of each.
