Illegal copies of new Star Wars on sale in China
Posted by AdminCodeWarrior in on May 22, 2005 at 6:51 PM

"BEIJING (Reuters) - Unauthorized disks of the latest "Star Wars" blockbuster were on sale on the streets of Beijing on Sunday, just days after the film premiered in China.
"Star Wars: Episode III -- Revenge of the Sith" opened across China at midnight on Thursday, about the same time it premiered elsewhere in the world, in an attempt to beat the pirates.

But pirated disks were available everywhere by Sunday.

"These just came in this morning. The quality is very good, they're not like those pirated copies that are filmed in the cinema," a Beijing vendor said as he fished a pirated DVD from behind a bush and offered to sell it for 7 yuan (85 U.S. cents)."

I just saw the movie this morning at the theatre. it's awesome. there were weaknesses sure but it filled in the gaps for me beautifully. I was very impressed. having said that my boycott of the MPAA can now begin. I hope Glickman didn't really think he had a chance threatening a government who's a master of it themselves

The MPAA will have about as much luck in China as the RIAA had in Russia. In other words, they get laughed out of the country.

Now why am I not surprised that the new money maker is on line, Glickman has just showed up in China to shake his finger in the nose of the government there, and then this report follows?

so is glickman going to stand in Tiennamen Square and argue with the red army about this? I'd pay more to watch that than star wars.
