(who are the best Dmusic artists?)
from the boards....
"There are simply too many to list. I'm blown away by the percentage of music here that's top quality. I'm a veteran of a number of sites where one can listen to free music. None of them come even close; one must wade through so much garbage before hearing something worthwhile elsewhere. I have about eight or nine CDs (at just under eighty minutes each) of stuff that I've downloaded here, and in putting those together I MIGHT have encountered about ten MINUTES of music that really didn't do much for me...and that's the WORST that I could say about it, "not my cup of tea". Where else do you get that?"

Absolutly right. Whats funny is that there are SO MANY people out there that assume what they hear on the radio is the best of the best, its just an assumption all of us probably made at one time or another in our lives. But the truth is that what is on the radio isnt the best there is, there are bands all over the country that are better than what you hear on the radio or MTV. An accurate statement may be that the bands you hear on the radio are the most marketable at that particular moment, or in other words, their music is the easiest to sell for the labels on that particular date. But thats about all you can really say about them, and most of those artists are gone in a month or two. I think a lot of people would be amazed at the quality of the music on dmusic, its just a matter of getting them there to listen to it.

DMusic artists are doing it for the love of music. They are unique, and are not simply RIAA slaves , cranking out formula tunes with drum machines and synths,
and lip synching when called on to perform.
DMUSIC artists are keeping it real...
DMUSIC...it's da real music!

Exactly! Almost everyone I've seen here does it for the sake of music - and the result is awesome! Artists here are usually more creative and have better sounding music than a lot of what's on the radio. Now, some of the stuff on the radio actually is good, but not even half of it IMHO.
What we need to do is get more people commenting - I get one, perhaps two comments per song. Like I've said before, if anyone listens to my song, I'll listen to some of theirs. Should be a site-wide policy, if you ask me.

It sorta is a site-wide policy koiulpoi. An un-writen one.
Dmusic folks actually get to know one another better than those at other sites.
Garageband has a great method of "forcing" you to listen to and comment on the songs, but their method is flawed in regards to building a community. (Not knocking them, but things are too "cold" and "distant" the way it works at Garageband.)
At Dmusic, we kinda set our own rules. The more you participate, the more your own efforts are rewarded.
Participation is KEY if you want to build up a fan-base. It may be hard work (all promotion is) but at Dmusic, it is rewarding beyond getting you songs downloaded more. I have made MANY friends at Dmusic.

This site is that cool, huh! Really...well, when I joined here (months back)I introduced myself on the message board. You know, to say hello and things. Being nice and respectful to my fellow musicians. Being 'a stranger in town' and all (I'm british). Yet, all I got was a big fat zero! No one said 'hi dude' once. Guess everyone was out, huh?
Still, I do agree with the comments above. THE MUSIC HERE IS GREAT and hell, I never listen to the radio or watch that MTV crap, anyhow!
I forgive you all! peace.
