The explosive growth of MP3 digital music players like Apple's iPod, and popularity of online radio stations and streaming jukebox services creates a market of consumers who seek to make streaming music portable.

Applian Technologies introduces the solution with its new Replay Music streaming recording software. Replay Music records streaming music, and splits songs into individual MP3s. Best of all, Replay Music tags each file with the artist, title, genre and album name using Gracenote(R) MusicID song recognition technology.

Among the features that makes Replay Music the ultimate streaming music recorder:Replay Music captures streaming music into high quality MP3 files. -- Proprietary technology splits recordings precisely and accurately into separate tracks. -- Automatically tags songs with title, artist, album and genre. -- Supports any MP3 player, and automatically syncs songs into Apple's iTunes. -- Burns CDs.

Here's how it works:
1. Simply purchase and download ReplayMusic
2. Open the software and click "record."
3. Play the streaming video or audio you wish to record.
4. That's it! The content is saved for playback on your PC, CD or digital music player.

What I don't see in this is what it does with licensed and protected files. Does it stream the license also? Does it pass around the license? Some how I doubt that it does or that would open these folks for a lawsuit for sure. Exactly how does it treat DRM and non DRM files? This application would not be out had the INDUCE act passed.

Since the info is so sketchy on these points, it is all speculation.

I just dug a little deeper into the FAQ of the software. Recorder can NOT record:

* Content protected by Digital Rights Management (DRM).
* Real Player streams.

A recorder that can't record is being called a recorder. How innovative. Wonder who could influance such to be?

The DRM issue doesn't bother me too much 'cause I'm not into top40 Puking I liked how this program (unlike most stream rippers) was able to tag the music.

Ha, works with Napster, and I'm a DJ so this is awsome!

I think StationRipper does basically the same thing. And it's free.

Won't record contents that are DRM protected but works with Napster?
