RIAA files more piracy lawsuits

The recording industry filed copyright infringement lawsuits against 761 computer users Thursday, the latest round of litigation in the record companies' effort to stamp out unauthorized trading of music online. The latest batch of lawsuits also targeted 25 computer users suspected of swapping songs over university networks, according to the Recording Industry Association of America, a trade group for the largest music companies. The RIAA claims the defendants used peer-to-peer services, including eDonkey, Kazaa and LimeWire to share music. Among the college and universities attended by students named in the lawsuits were Amherst College, Boston College, Bridgewater State, Iowa State, Northeastern, and the University of Massachusetts.

really, 750 more?

someone put this story in the pile of others like it in the closet *yawn*

sueing university students actually has LESS impact than sueing other demographics.

Ill tell you right now, when you regularly hand out checks upwards of $10,000 to large institutions, handing out yet another doesnt seem like much more.

Alright.. it was kind of scary the first time the lawsuits came out. By the second time it happened and nobody got "caught", nobody cared anymore. I'm shakin'

yeah.. it's about 2 degrees from junkmail now.

soon people will start putting it on sitcoms
I can see it now, guy picks up and weeds through his junk mail, tossing each into a big box as he reads them off:

"credit card ad, clearing house sweepstakes, subpoena from RIAA, aol cd.."

Let's see....hmmm...thinking up headlines here...

RIAA NUTS FAIL TO LEARN FROM FAILURE
CARY AND COMPANY, SUERS FROM THE SEWERS
THE RIAA...WINNING THE BATTLE AND LOSING THE WAR
RIAA SUES HUNDREDS MORE CUSTOMERS...THEY STILL DON'T GET IT DO THEY?

Note to the RIAA...uh, don't know if you've noticed it yet...but MILLIONS are still giving you the virtual, digital finger and ignoring your lawsuits...
Tell you what...sue 750 every three months for the 50 years...that's still MILLIONS who will be giving you the middle finger and still sharing ...

Dang shame for those that got sued though, each will be a personal tragedy.

All I can say is that keep it up, RIAA. You are being very successful in turning away people that will no longer listen and therefore will no longer be in the market for your "content". You are the best ad and poster child for not going to your content.

I don't think the RIAA is interested in using lawsuits to stop P2P use. they know it won't. they use it for additional income.

Only 59.993 million to go.

I suggest, for additional income, they set up one of those deals where you have someone sit on a stool and people throw softballs at a target and if you hit the target, the person sitting there gets dunked in the water...BUT, with modifications...the "someone" becomes Cary Sue...the "water" is molten lead, and instead of softballs, we use iron golf balls...

At a buck a throw, I can see P2Pers lining up around the block ...

Ok, do you want to put up or shut up? I know a particular defendant that may be willing to take one of these cases all the way to trial. If the RIAA would be so foolish.

Ahhh but the defendant needs money. Not much money, maybe 10 to 20 grand. Ask Larry, that's nothing for litigation costs.

Ya me too I am real scare! I add more MP3 files to share almost every week and I have now other 7000 tracks on my 250 gigas HD. Top notch mp3 quality because they are from my personal CD collection. Oh and tomorrow I will add 2X 400 Gigs IDE hardrive to my RAID controler to store and share all my DVD too. RIAA and MPAA! I am on Kazaa light, Limewire, Bitorent and Emule.Everytime I see an upload I smile! But watch out if I stop smilling! Catch me if you can and get yourself into big but I mean big big trouble! Let's see who is the most scared!

But I neither get pinged by a denied IP. Why? I thing they are big bags of balonney. May be I should give them some keywords (Beethoven, Majortreat, Dvorak, Katchaturian, Bruckner) so that I can test my firewall at least. Happy downloading from my Major treat server! I spent 2k just to bother these parasites!. This is my war contribution. Use It! Better than buying guns right?

U know what would be nice? To have an organization that would collect money for those sued.
I'd personnaly give money to such an association.
Money could help pay the 4000$ people get asked by the RIAA.
Or even better, send ONE damn case in court.

Damn.........that would be so nice. We would send money, to keep our right to not give money to the riaa for crappy cds. So RIAA would pay their lawyers to sue us, and we would as a collectivity, put money together to pay the lawsuits.
So, we would spend money, RIAA would spend money, and lawyers would get money.
So RIAA would see us spend money that we could pay to be able to download whatever we want, and wouldnt get it.

Dundee, your brillant. Too bad no one would ever start that, and I'm not old enough to do so, and don't got the money to try.

I have no clue how they expect any of these cases to win in court. All it takes is 1 sympathetic juror, and they lose.

Hell, if I were to receive jury duty for one of these cases, I would sit quietly, and once we went into the jury room, let the other jurers know I side against the RIAA before they even get to sit down and then head out to lunch :) (Smile)

what you fail to notice is that everytime they send out more lawsuits, the other half is in front of congress trying to get some law passed that is so big brother like in its purpose. lawsuits on the left, passing a crazy law on the right. Watch to see what they try to get passed in the next week or so. While we are laughing at thier lawsuits, they are pulling a fast one behind our backs.
