Is Dmusic the "next mp3.com"?
Posted by Worldleflaw in on November 9, 2004 at 3:08 AM

From: backhouse1@sbcglobal.net
Message: You could be the next mp3.com. Interesting site with lot's of potential. I found you pretty easy when searching, that's a plus. You seem to have a lot of people registered. There seems to be room for more genres or sub catagories. My last comment is most sites like this are great for offering a vehicle for an artist to showcase and sell their music but in the bigger picture are ther any plans to offer a way for more exposure with labels, publishers, producers etc. Also I get a vibe you are not trying to go to corporate but still with this in mind there could be an outlet formed to get artist deals. Maybe some kind of link with college stations as well. Just some thoughts.

Lets hope not...in the long run haha.

Seriously though it' a nice site..I do however miss the artist type pages and the ability to search for a specific music artist and get lists of similar alternate artists.

No, it is NOT!

(And, leflaw, YOU better not make me a liar!)

I certainly am HAPPY to hear such a happy message from backhouse1... but mp3.com had at it's helm a guy named Michael Robertson who had the money and venture capitol shrewdness to build that site into a phenomenon on the backs of all the eager independent musicians who thought they were helping to create a better world in music... and it had a GREAT start! (at first)

But, Michael Robertson was not really behind the "music revolution" for it's own sake... he was in it for the MONEY! And thus, we all got SOLD OUT!

Sure, the RIAA sued his company to death over the STUPID "my mp3 locker" thingy... but Mr. Robertson should have fucking KNOWN that trying to use the RIAA tunes as a "draw" would ONLY get his ass bitch-slapped.

When the RIAA kicked his ass, what did he do? He fucking BAILED and let the site get snapped up lock stock and barrel by Vivendi Universal.

I label Michael Robertson a TRAITOR for being a greedy and stupid moron.

Leflaw has MUCH more sense than that guy did. Leflaw BELIEVES in the music revolution! (He damn well better... or we are gonna hunt his ass down!)

NO, dmusic is NOT to be the "next" mp3.com...

Dmusic may NOT have the "venture capitol" behind it... but it DOES have the heart and drive that Mp3.com LIED to us about having.

(At least, I pray to God it is so!)

Hey leflaw, there are 2 kinds of musicians you will deal with via dmusic/boycott-riaa...

There are the "jaded" types (like "independentmusician" and "gdZiemann" etc.)

And there are the "starry-eyed" types
(like "independentmusician" and "gdZiemann" etc.)

Check out the article about James Hollihan and his music: http://news.dmusic.com/article/14804

I checked it out at RIAA Radar. It's "safe". I ordered it yesterday from CCNow for just $ 9.99 (and no tax or shipping).
