RIAA Files 750 Infringement Suits
http://www.billboard.com/bb/daily/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1000694363
The Recording Industry Association of America yesterday (Oct. 28) brought a new round of copyright-infringement lawsuits against 750 file sharers, including 25 users on 13 university campuses.
As with all 10 rounds of lawsuits filed so far this year, the RIAA is utilizing the "John Doe" litigation process, which is used to sue defendants whose names are not known.
The RIAA also filed an additional 213 lawsuits against named defendants -- individuals who were already identified through the litigation process and then declined or ignored overtures from the trade group to settle the case before it proceeded further. Those lawsuits were filed in federal district courts in 35 states.
The file sharers sued today were using unauthorized peer-to-peer services such as eDonkey, Kazaa, LimeWire and Grokster.
The latest round brings the total number of alleged infringers sued by the RIAA this year to 6,504.

"...sued by the RIAA this year to 6,504."
Given approximately 60 million users, that's .01084% of P2P users. Slowly, but surely, they'll get everyone by the end of time. It ain't workin'.

"The file sharers sued today were using unauthorized peer-to-peer services such as eDonkey, Kazaa, LimeWire and Grokster."
So now Kazaa and the others are "unauthorized." So does that mean I need Cary Sue's permission to install software on my own computer in my own home for my personal use?

Here's an action plan...the riaa should start recieving letters that tell them 10 people will sign up for a p2p program, for every person they bring a lawsuit against. Tit for tat....I'm in my nasty mode tonight.

they can remove grokster from the list now.
People will stop using it when they realize 1/5 of the songs they search for are drm'ed crap theyre forced to pay for.

Yeah, I don't get this....first, they beat them in court, and now they're teaming up with them? Do I smell a sellout, or what?

SHERMINATOR:
at that rate they wont get them by the end of time either.
Given an average of 1.5 offspring per "pirate", that percentage you quoted will go down as they are raised under the "EEEVIL" piratical ways.
