Thank Goodness...Finally Our Microchips are Approved

Thanks to Lachatte for the link.

"The VeriChip, the size of a grain of rice, is inserted under the skin with a needle in a procedure that takes less than 20 minutes to complete.

The Associated Press

Updated: 6:38 p.m. ET Oct. 13, 2004 WASHINGTON -

Medical milestone or privacy invasion? A tiny computer chip approved Wednesday for implantation in a patient’s arm can speed vital information about a patient’s medical history to doctors and hospitals. But critics warn that it could open new ways to imperil the confidentiality of medical records.

The Food and Drug Administration said Wednesday that Applied Digital Solutions of Delray Beach, Fla., could market the VeriChip, an implantable computer chip about the size of a grain of rice, for medical purposes.

With the pinch of a syringe, the microchip is inserted under the skin in a procedure that takes less than 20 minutes and leaves no stitches. Silently and invisibly, the dormant chip stores a code that releases patient-specific information when a scanner passes over it.

Think UPC code. The identifier, emblazoned on a food item, brings up its name and price on the cashier’s screen.

Chip's dual uses raise alarm
The VeriChip itself contains no medical records, just codes that can be scanned, and revealed, in a doctor’s office or hospital. With that code, the health providers can unlock that portion of a secure database that holds that person’s medical information, including allergies and prior treatment. The electronic database, not the chip, would be updated with each medical visit.

The microchips have already been implanted in 1 million pets. But the chip’s possible dual use for tracking people’s movements — as well as speeding delivery of their medical information to emergency rooms — has raised alarm."

Well...it's ABOUT TIME! I don't think I could have stood one more day without an implanted microchip in me, ready to be downloaded at a hospital or secret service station near you.

I work with computers every day. I have to deal with them breaking down and bad software. I think everyknow knows what I am talking about. So why, would I ever want to put something like that into my body?

Good point.

Most people will tolerate having this done when the time comes that government requires it.

I don't think people will like the idea that someday a government funded research team could monitor the average time every American spends on the can or in the living rooms watching television just by punching up a few algorithms on the computer and hook in with GPS.

Every time you sit on that toilet, they know you're there, they know what you're doing, you dirty dirty sinful bastard. VeriChip, terrorizing us all the way up to the flush and beyond.

^^^ While that is an extreme satire, the scary part is that it could be possible, certainly if the technology is available, they would actually do it.

Yeah, but if you tihnk about it, the gov't can track you doing things you do everyday - where you surf online, who you write your e-mails to, what you say in them, etc. Depending on where you live, you might be watched a number of traffic cameras. I'm definitely not going to get a microchip (can you say mark of the beast? among another concerns), but for some people, there might be good, legitimate uses of technology. The problem is when those good uses are outweighed by the bad ones (P2P sharing, as an example)

Saw an article at BBC a few weeks ago wherein a reporter had a temporary implant but he had to pay to get it cut back out) which enabled him to buy beer without cash at a bar.

Proving once again that people will do just about anything if it involves beer.

The goverment can track people, just like commerce does. However, getting one of these chips is asking them to have the power to do so. I am allergic to tree nuts and such, so I understand the uses. But I would still never EVER want a computer chip inside me.

Sorry, ShadowMom, but when the time comes that government requires having the microchip to be able to buy or sell, most people WILL tolerate having it done.

Hmmmm. The Apostle Paul wrote about this in Revelations. Without "the number", you will not be allowed to work, or to purchase goods, or even officially exist. I can see the One World Government that europe dreams of making implantation mandatory. And of course, over on this side of the Pond, it will be a "security measure" to prevent terrorism. We need to kill off the Islamists quick, before our own Imperial Federal Government uses them as an excuse to implant us.

You do know that no-one wil object, no matter however you think they will. You'd be suprised what people would accept, should it involve removing the "terrorist threat". Once everyone is chipped, the next step would be denying rights to those who have not had it done. This would ensure chipping for everyone. Then we're fucked, but not safe.

Where's Shmoo? Surely he has some comment about the "sheep" who will line up for their implants because chips will keep them safe. And it's easy. No fuss, no muss. Don't be left out! Get yours today! Don't worry about those pesky paper documents. It will be right there in your arm (or your a**). Whatever you choose. What a future! We'll be tagged, ID'd, and traced. Relax, Azurre. It's all taken care of. The government knows best.

yep... if there's anything to convince me the bible has any amount of truth its this... mark of the beast, goes in your wrist, hand, forhead, and without it you cannot buy or sell anything... of course... this is just a medical chip... but its the first stride in that direction... i find it hard to believe a largly christian society would comply with these measures so my personal opinion is it will go over like a lead balloon... unless such a measure is mandated...

DemandRelevance -- I can't help it. I have absolute faith that you can push the people just so far, and then they will shove right back. If I'm wrong, we all lose. If I'm right, this might be the thing that will set it off. I'm not religious, but I have what is probably a bad case of faith--in people, especially the American people. You can manipulate them in a lot of ways, but I think in the end they will stand up to something so obviously evil. So sue me. My world may be a little dreary right now, but if you have no faith, what gets you out of bed every day?

The American people grew stronger in the 1960's because of the industrial age and plenty of wealth. But today its becomming a different story. Money is power as we all know it and the Idea behind globalization or simply put "New World Order" is to make us all 3rd world morons and It will be like one big slave prison working for the George Bush's and John Kerry's. It won't make me feel like getting out of bed much anymore even with the faith.

ShadowMom

I used to question how this was all rolling along as well.

I had particular trouble with the cashless society the Bible mentions. I kept saying there is no way they could manipulate us into that...how would you cover your parking meters, or even just buying a stick of gum...then the debit card rolled in, and by golly, now I can even buy gas with a swipe of the card, let alone the bubble gum and parking meters.... Debit card, who would have thunk?

.....so, to get a chip embedded in your arm so you can buy formula to feed your baby? What do you think is the end result of that little riff?

What gets me out of bed in the morning? My love of life, no matter which direction it takes. My family and my faith in the Lord, that no matter what happens, I KNOW HE is still in control.

One place I do draw the line is taking any kind of chip or mark...they WILL have to kill me then, and yes, lots of people will die over this...but I'm a firm believer in even a better life after this :) (Smile)

If this was a prediction 100 years ago it would be impressive. Let us try understanding 2000 years ago. Long before electronics.
And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: and that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six." (Revelation 13:16-18.)

NOW the GIANT media studios can charge per eye when watching rentals at home. Everyone in the room will make a $3 rental now a rental for each viewer. Four viewers times $3 = $12. Absurd maybe but these are greedy CORPS. Also this might be applied to the music. Each time you play you get charged 1 sec. or whole song per person in room. You wait it get much worse than this. So much for P2P.

DMemberDemandRelevance

No, each item with a universal product code that is scanned automatically contains the number 6 three times -- first at the beginning, then in the middle, and again at the end. In between are the unique numeric codes that determine the type of product.
This has been the case for years now.

Thanks for the support. Drama is right. It is not often we get to talk about the good old 666 in everyday life!

"ShadowMom: Did they give you a day pass from the hospital, karotechia?"

Well... it was kind of crazy at work today! But actually, my post is just dripping with sarcasm.

A quick Google search brought this long held conspiracy to the forefront again, and this article reminded me of the loonies who actually preach this stuff. Most of them seem to be from Texas, and are really whacked out extreme right-wingers who take their religion to the fringes with their over the top theories about the rise of the New World Order and other such rubbish.

However, I have to get back to the hospita... uh, paper I am writing for psych class tomorrow. ;) (Wink)
