DMusicians asked to review website for new book!
Posted by Bluegrassleflaw in on August 27, 2004 at 7:06 PM

This just came in:

"I'm currently writing a paper back book on music production with some other people I associate with. This book will be published and sold on websites and in book stores. The details of the book will be in-depth, covering a range of topic's such as; Hardware, Software, tips techniques, business aspects and approaches, online success, and
reviews on music hosting websites such as yours. This is where you become
involved.

My main purpose for this email is to ask if you would like to be apart of this production book. What I'm seeking from you is a review of your website to place in the book. Including the goals of your site, what an artist is capable of gaining by going thru your site, the main purpose of your site, what your website offers to an independent artist, your website traffic stats, etc. This review, plus your website title and url, will be included under the subject "Audio Hosting Websites." This subject will be highlighted in the book as being an extremely important part of online
music.

This will drive artists to your website to sign up and upload their music. Please respond and let me know if you can help provide anything of such, that I'm interested in. We both can gain from this option and help each other out which is what it's all about in the long run. I'd be thankful for any help you provide me with."

The greatest thing about DMusic is the community of artists. There really is not another music site on the web that has this going on. Musicians are there to market themselves and sell CDs as usual, but they the vast majority are there to learn. You will not find a more collaborative group of musicians either. The collaborations cross genres and continents around the world. Just perusing the user pages you'll find shouts to each other asking about how a test went the other day, how that new song is coming along, how to get a killer phaser effect from a certain guitar pedal, or how the new baby is doing. The enclave at Dmusic is a a great big musical family, that rocks better than the Partridge Family and with 100% less Danny Bonaduce!

Hi Leflaw, just jotted down my impressions of the site. I could go on and on, talking about the competition etc, but if this is any use to you ....

Dmusic is a unique community of creative minds which probably sparks enough energy to run a grid! One of the most useful things a musician can use the site for in addition to showcasing his/her work, is to discuss works-in-progress and find encouragement, advice and constructive criticism from fellow artists. The lonliness of a lyricist or musician in a home recording studio becomes a thing of the past and the lively interaction between members of the site can be addictive, but is hugely supportive. Artists have the opportunity to 'meet' other artists and often collaborate, for instance an instrumentalist can find their vocalist through the site and complete a composition that may have been on the 'back boiler' for years. The design of the site is one of genius. East artist has his own 'home' - a main page and artist page where he can put up pictures, band info and biog. This can be visited by other members who can leave comments and chat, or be viewed and heard by internet visitors just browsing ....

Dmusic is the most useful and comprehensive online musician community i've come across. Your band is given an easy to remember url - i.e. my bands bame is Pontus and the url is http://pontus.dmusic.com. This makes it easier to encourage others to visit your site.
My motivation to put my music on this site is mainly because I want feedback form others on my music. Either from fellow memebers or people I send the link to. In this respect, it is not always useful - at it is impossible to make people visit and listen, let alone leave a comment. You sort of just hope that some kind people will take their time with you - and try to promote the site as much as possible (within the code of conduct for self promotion that do and should exist within such a community). I find myself logging on several timea a day, in suspense and hope that someone have left me a note or comment.
I have put my music on several communities (increases the chance of people listening and commenting) - but I always find myself linking to the dmusic site, as I consider this THE ONE AND ONLY real musician community.

Good luck on your book. Feel free to send me a note if you have questions or would like elaboration. Take care. Pontus

The best thing about DMusic is the community. It's a lot easier to interact with the artist. You also get to actually know the people on this site. It's like one big internet social club where everybody gets along. And when it comes to feedback, the people on the site don't tell you what you want to hear. They analyze everything and give you great reviews which in turn help us so that next time when we do a song, we do it 10 times better. What's even better about this site is that the people who run this site assist us and everybody on this site. They try to make things happen and help us with trying to achieve our goal.

Well, you have the artists that are willing to learn. As well you have everyone else there helping out to the best of their abilities. Someone may not be a good reviewer but with news on the best equipment to buy, what to look out for and how to protect yourself in "the real world" Dmusic seriously has everything that an up and comer could ask for.

Just so long as the ego is left at the door. :p (Joking)

I marvel at how dmusic manages to organize a gaggle of independent musicians into a vibrant, comprehensive web community.
This site must be HUGE, because you get an amazing array of tools to present your music, your thoughts, your pictures, your opinions.. Then, dmusic adds and additional layer of flexibility that connects all of the artist and member pages into a tight-knit community by the shoutbox option, which allows instant communication between all on this site. This is the best representation of what internet power can provide in a free society. And all you have to do to join is sign up. Kudos to the overarching philosophy of creativity and respect for all that the site owners bring to this endeavor. It is apparent when you stream the artist music of your choice, when you read the intelligent and fervent concerns in the forums and article commentary, when you see the unity of purpose in exposing, detailing, and fighting for the social and legal issues of indy musicians. I discovered this site by accident.. best one I have ever had.

Well..with my digital imprimatur...here goes :
"Dmusic.com is a multifaceted online community which facilitates
the promotion not only of independent artists and which showcases
their works to an international audience, but also, features
up to date news and views concerning breaking events and issues
which are of interests to artists everywhere.

Artists have their own pages, hosted on a very quick and reliable
server, and hosting is available for storage of their own songs,
as well as the ability to share more about themselves as artists
and as individuals.

DMusic is a cutting edge venue for artists to present themselves
in a professional, and yet personable way.

Beyond that, Dmusic is also a venue for budding writers to express
themselves and to get their ideas across. The News section is not
just about music and musicians, but is an open forum for discussion
of political events and views, and to explore basic issues including
privacy, personal rights and freedoms, ongoing court cases, constitutional
issues, new technological advances, file formats, and much much more.

Topics such as Digital Rights Management (DRM), copy protection of CDs,
the DMCA, copyright reform, police brutality, copyright infringement,
artist's contracts, and many more such items of interest, are posted and discusssed on a daily basis.

The site is well laid out, has a tremendous uptime, is open and inviting for new members , and has a "subscribers only" area which offers premium content for a small subscription price.

Byte for byte, I think DMusic is one of the best sites in the world for artists, both independent and signed to a label, to keep up with the news of the day, and to showcase their talents, their ideas, and their personality.

The site ROCKS !

'Nuff said.

From Dennytate

This has been an amazing day for me and the best Birthday Present i could ever ask for. Ever since i joined Dmusic, i never knew how much positive energy this site would bring to my art. I have been inspired and have been challenged by many important, wonderful and amazing artists as your seves. There is so much talent on this site and just being nominated was
something i will not take for granted.

Now that i have come in 2'nd place ( Tied with Jennae - Doo Little Street) ( Another Amazing and beautiful song ) with my latest song "The Nightmare Of Love", i am so touched i really don't know how to react , or what toi say but thankyou. I am sure that i will have many new songs to come, and just the fact that my music is touching people makes it all worth it. I am thankful to all of you with the bottom of my heart.

Blushing Thankyou LeFlaw. This is the Best Music Website online ! There isn't another website that i have found that gives us as artists such exposure
and support. This is a family that is always creating new members and that is so important for
musicians who are looking for publicity, especially free publicity. You have created the most important music website online to date. We as artists should really consider ourselves lucky and blessed to have this powerful tool to promote our music and talents.
I have removed most of my music from other sites because they are not nearly as organized as DMUSIC.
Great Work LeFlaw ! This is a dream come true for us !Group Hug

Electric Gypsy still maintains a presence at garageband.com, iuma.com, purevolume.com, etc. but dmusic is the best by far (even tho I sometimes nag about it being kinda hard to find something I am not already aware of.)
The other sites tend to have ranking charts and "sounds like so and so" ways of exploring for the "new" stuff, but at dmusic, participation in the community is how you find the new. I am comming to believe it may actually be a "better" way in some regards than all the other indie music sites. There tends to be much more interaction between the artist and fan doing it the dmusic way.
