Shakin' Out The Cobwebs With Thin Lizzy

Artist: Thin Lizzy
Title: Inside Thin Lizzy-1971-1983/An Independent Critical Review
Genre: Rock
Format: DVD
Label: Classic Rock Productions-http://www.classicrockproductions.com
Website: http://www.thin-lizzy.net / http://www.thin-lizzy.com

Thin Lizzy are legendary rockers with a storied past. The black Irishmen, Phil Lynott, became one of the most charismatic front men in music in the 70’s and early 80’s. His bass playing and vocals defined the Thin Lizzy sound on classic albums such as Jailbreak (1976) and Bad Reputation (1977).

Lynott became another rock ‘n’ roll casualty unfortunately and the world of music misses his great talent dearly. Despite several outstanding albums, the band never received the respect that they deserved. Their defining moment was Jailbreak and the big hit “The Boys Are Back In Town.”

Inside Thin Lizzy-1971-1983/An Independent Critical Review is a review of each album by respected rock critics. I found it to be in depth and revealing. An added bonus is that there is rare archived footage of the band and Lynott available for the first time on this DVD.

What I never realized back in the 70’s when I was a teenager listening to this music, is that Lynott was a true poet heavily influenced by his Celtic roots. The sound and atmospheres created in many of his songs were reflections of a proud heritage.

Well, it happened again, after watching this DVD I went to Amazon and started putting Thin Lizzy albums in my shopping cart! It was great music and wonderful time for me, it is documentaries such as this that serve as a music history lesson and a reminder of some of the best rock music ever recorded.

Phil Lynott had one of the greatest rock voices of all time. Easy top ten, maybe top five. I used to own cassettes of Jailbreak and Bad Reputation but they eventually wore out and became unusable. Now do I have to go to Amazon.com and put the CD versions in my cart to feel nostalgia and listen to some good music? Hell no!!! Why should I pay for the same music twice. Particularly when Phil Lynott isn’t going to see a dime. Nope. When I bought those cassettes I bought a license to listen to those songs in perpetuity coupled with the first sale doctrine. Take me to court for downloading those songs and I’ll kick your ass.

Thin Lizzy is one of the greatest rock bands ever. You should hunt down a copy of their long out of print cd "The Peel Sessions" on Strange Fruit from 1994. It is a collection of live recordings from legendary British DJ John Peel's radio show. Lizzy's "Live and Dangerous" is considered one of the great live albums of the 70's, but The Peel Sessions blows it away. Great stuff!

Fuck that raoulduke1. The rest of the band is still alive. Buy the cd's! Support the artist!

"When I bought those cassettes I bought a license to listen to those songs in perpetuity coupled with the first sale doctrine."

This is suck a crock. All consumer goods wear out. Am I entitled to free toaster ovens for the rest of my life because I bought a toaster oven once? Bah!

And if you do decide to download their music, then I expect you will send a check directly to them. You can find their management here and inquire where to send the check:

“Am I entitled to free toaster ovens for the rest of my life because I bought a toaster oven once?” If you bought your toaster from snap-on, craftsman or Patagonia, you had better believe you are entitled to a new toaster. HMMM record companies don’t stand behind their product. What a shocker.

"All consumer goods wear out."

Music doesn't. And I already paid for the music. Why should I have to pay twice, in some cases three or four times. If I restore my toaster with generic parts to have still have to pay the original manufacturer? No.

You are suggesting that if my toaster wears out, I can’t make toast anymore without paying a royalty to the toaster manufacturer.

If I steal the CDs from my neighbor, do I still have to pay the band or the record company or my neighbor? What if I purchase the CDs from my neighbor?

If I restore the recordings from my cassette tapes, I do not have to pay anyone, but if I copy my friends recording I do. HMMMMMMMMMMM. Sounds like bullshit to me.

Your analogy to tangible property does not work. Your toaster analogy demonstrates that perfectly. Thanks for the help.

P.S. If you think the record companies are going to accurately account to the remaining band members for my purchase have another toke. And their management company. LMMFAOAFOTG.

Excuses, excuses, excuses. If you want to pay Scott Gorham directly you can request his contact info here:

Just make the check payable directly to Scott and then he can cash the check. Thanks. : )

Excuses my ass. I don't owe Scott Gorham or anybody else one red fucking penny. I paid for the music once, and I can do anything I fucking want with it and there is not a god damn thing you or anyone else can do about it.

I saw Thin Lizzy perform at the Tower Theatre in Upper Darby (Phila. area) back in the 70's. They were the opening act for the Tubes. Great show!

mroop, raoulduke1: two attorneys duking it out...
If you buy a record, a tape, or a CD, do you own the recording? Does the RIAA stand behind its product? Is there a warranty? Replacement cost?
When you purchase a recording, and it's just a license to listen to it, should the RIAA be able to dictate how you listen to it or how often you listen to it? I mean, if you listen too often, it could wear out. If you are restricted and unable to make a backup copy, it might wear out. I still have vinyls in great condition that I play. What is "normal wear and tear"? What is reasonable?
If it is just a license, shouldn't they (RIAA) replace the physical product or allow you to obtain a copy?

Why should they "play nice" when they are mearly debating over the very heart of what this site is all about? There is a lot of "you should play nice" retoric in the news right now on the upcomming presidential election. Both "sides" being accused of running excessively negative ads. I think when two people/groups are on opposing sides of an issue we should just give 'em clubs then let 'em go at it and just sit back and enjoy the carnage if we don't feel like picking sides.

:) (Smile)

(just kidding yall, I am really a peacenic, honest.)

LOL! I have to admit that entertainment has value and I would consider sending Larry and mroop checks right now.

I have panic attacks about letting things like, "that's the fucking dumbest thing I've ever heard," slip out in court. It'll happen someday.
