First- I'm really happy to see lots of people that I've come to "know" and respect and nominated on the lists. It's really great to have a personal connection with these artists and I wish them all the best! Second- I am amazed that I made it on to the lists and want to thank everyone. I consider this a big honor to be in the company of the others. Second-Second: The Slide Collab is seven artists and it is a shame that the others are not mentioned because everyone's contribution was essential and I am far from being an initiator of the collab. I am sorry to see that I am mentioned and not the others. Third: thanks to the vote counters and others behind the scenes for their hard work! Ok, now I'll shut up.
Happy and happy votin'

well i've worked my way through 8 of the categories tonight and cast my votes on them...each category was extremely difficult due to the high quality of the entries but decisions had to be made. I've found some artists on my journey whom i hadn't heard before and it was a pleasant surprise coupled with a great listening experience and i've been exposed to great works in genres i normally wouldn't listen to, so it's been an expansive night as well as a most enjoyable one into the bargain. I'm looking forward to tomorrow when i can complete the mission. Good luck everyone

That's them all done, all my votes have been cast and i'm confident in my choices, each genre threw up some great music and i've had a great time listening to all the nominations. I guess it's just a case now of biting the finger nails until the results are posted. I don't think i heard a track out of all the nominations that i didn't like, each one was there on its own merit and rightly so, they were all good to listen to, as i said earlier i've found some real gems in genres i wasn't expecting to and it was great to hear something fresh. I'm whacked now after all this analysis, it's almost time for my afternoon nap and some soothing for the journey to nod. Congratulations to everyone involved and Dmusic as a whole, this was a great way to get people listening and create interest

Even though all of the songs nominated that I have heard so far (gonna try to finish the whole list) are each very worthy on their own merits, we need to remember that it is as much a "popularity" contest as it is a "how good the song is" contest. It is hard to get nominated if you are very new to the scene and/or have not promoted your work enough yet. The nominators had to know of your very existance before they could decide if they liked you enough or not to nominate. This contest thus rewards both "marketing/promotion" in addition to the "quality/calibre" of the song/performance/artist.
Good luck to all who made it (and also to those who didn't this time!)

When it comes down to it though marketing and promotion are both major parts of the music industry....there's no point in creating in a vacuum, you need to let people know you're there...it's a method employed by every artist in the music business no matter how big or small they are. So the artists on here who actively promote themselves are only doing what artists all over the world do day in day out. It's all about getting noticed otherwise we wouldn't be here, self promotion and site interaction is good for dmusic as it raises it's profile....if everyone put up their tracks then just disappeared it would be quite a dull place. If the rolling stones still feel the need to advertise their concerts considering their fame, then i think it's all the more important that as unsigned artists who are in the main unknown should promote themselves as much as they can....because if you don't promote yourself someone else will take the opportunity for themselves and you could be left flicking sweetcorn out your hair for the rest of your life. Chances are it won't make a difference but at least you can satisfy yourself in the fact that you made the effort in any small way you can. I'm sure the next time the awards come round more artists will be aware of the positive effects of site interaction and supporting your fellow artists and will take a more pro active approach towards dmusic, which again is good for us all.

Good gravy allmighty! There are only like 4 or 5 songs per category and I am not even half way through listening to some of the best music I have ever heard in my life! (And these are only the ones that were NOMINATED...) HEY LEFLAW (Larry) get your webmasters/website designers off their asses and get us an easier way to find all this great music stored here at dmusic.com! This little contest is a great start, but there needs to be a better way to find new artists/music that you are not already deliberately looking for in the first place. Make that SEVERAL ways (to find.)

Just found out I was nominated in teh country category. Had been away for some time, sooooooo thanks for the nomination to whomever did so.
And Solipsism is correct re: marketing. I am in the process of filling out my second round ballot for the CMA's and some might be surprised at how much stuff we get from the majors informing us, the voting members, of product that is available for consideration during the voting period. In short it means e-mails, letters and free stuff in the post! Marketing, make the members aware of who you are and what you got.....
Thanks all......gonna cut this short cause it looks like I have a pile of music listening to do!! Gonna vote in each category. ONly fair to do so.

I also voted for the music i liked best, however i know there may very well be artists on dmusic whose music i may like even better...unfortunately though due to their lack of site interaction i am unaware of this and therefore, i personally can only nominate those artist whom i am aware of. This obviously was more evident in the first round of nominations as in this round, as it's a lot simpler to work through each nomination that's listed with a direct link to their music. in saying that there were still artists in this round of nominations whom i've not listenend to up until this round of nominations....this didn't stop me from voting for them in this round as in this round i listened to each song fully and made my judgements based solely upon what i thought was the musical worth of their indiviual entries who were nominated. I also realise that while i may not be aware of some of the artists...it's obvious that other people are, likewise their will be artists who've not heard me up until this round. The first round was a lot more difficult in respect of making your choices as you had to cut your way through a swathe of talent in order to pick out just two nominations and obviously some heavyweight talents on the site may have been missed out on the nominations as a result of this, i can think of a few right now off the top of my head, so i'm sure there's a lot more. So for me personally, my choices were based solely on what i considered to be the musical worth of all the individual artists i nominated but in the first round at least it was difficult to nominate outwith the circle of artists you've already become accustomed due to the fact i was like many other people voting, unaware of them. I considered going through the top 20 in each genre but this would have also been highly unfair due to the nature of chart manipulation and so on...Hopefully, like i said...next time the dmusic awards come round, more artists will be thinking along the lines of site interaction now that they can see the positive results of being pro-active about their music.

As per Solipsism...
...we think about this shit a lot more than you would think.
Even garageband.com (which DOES maybe have a "better" review/rating process) does NOT have such a caring community. Dmusic does need to improve in that one regard. There is TONS of awsome music here. This contest only reflects the choices of the most active dmusic participating members (for the most part) and is a great way to pat each other on the back.
But we need some way to search and find new and "unlooked" for music also
(notice, I use the word ALSO rather than INSTEAD)
I mean, for real,
who else besides me haunts the "New Arrivals" section of the home-page to try and find new talent? Other than that, and/or having made friends with other musicians/artists here, how ARE you supposed to find anything/anybody?
ah well,
thinking too much tonight/this morn.

I agree with what you're saying....i've stated before that DMusic is by FAR the most interactive music site i've came across and i've tried quite a few now...none even came close to the level of artist participation and interaction that is evident on this site...DMusic has to be congratulated for that, i love it here make no mistake, i'm not complaining. What i'm saying is it's down to the artists themselves to get known among the community, too many artists on dmusic think it's OUR duty to listen to their music without any reciprocation on their part, i think if they want to get noticed like all artists do then they have to make their presence known. Another option would be to follow besonic's example and use designated scouts to seek out new music, however their scouting system is rife with nepotism also...so i don't think there really is an answer outwith promoting yourself. I'd like to be able to more of the new music that arrives in dmusic but i don't have the time to go searching for new guys all the time, i much prefer if if they let me know that they're there..that way i can simply listen and enjoy the music while still having time to concetrate on my own work

Feel compelled to jump in here even though it might sound a little like piling on. So before I make any criticism, I gotta say that this site has given me the most satisfaction out of any of the mp3 sites I've used. I've extensively used mp3.com and garageband, soundclick, Iuma, stationmp3, musicbuilder... this place has the best community.
Now that being said, I've always felt this place should have some sort of random playlist streamer. Those have always been my favorite features of other sites that have had them, and it's the best way I've found for finding new stuff. I'd love to see that here.
In the absence of that, Shmoo, no you aren't the only one who hangs out in the recently uploaded lists I do that, and I also just randomly hop thru the Bin whenever I can. But all of that seems pretty inefficient compared to something that'd just stream random tracks from each genre or from all genres.
Now that that's out of the way, this site rocks. Thanks for the work you guys put into it, I hope my suggestions aren't taken as anything other than that.

Yeah, a random playlist generator (it could be just a daily listing of 10 or so songs per genera in random order. (And, there could be another list ranking by number of downloads, then by vote, ...and other ways.)
...Naw, make it a random order 2 songs apiece paired off, and then vote thumbs up and thumbs down to make it to the front page for the next day.
Heck, there is a LOT that could be done allong these lines.
Should be easy to to leflaw.
