Police Raid House, Mistake Hibiscus for Marijuana Plant
Posted by IntermediateCHAOS THE WITCH in on July 30, 2004 at 11:41 PM

Blair Davis, a landscape contractor, got a knock at the door of his home around 2 p.m. Tuesday. But before Davis could get his hand on the door knob, the door was busted in, and he was looking down the barrel of a pistol.

10 narcotics officers came into Davis' home, guns drawn, looking for marijuana plants. What Davis was growing wasn't marijuana, but hibiscus plants. Texas Star hibiscus plants slightly resemble marijuana, but hibiscus plants have white buds on them.

Apparantly, one of his neighbors thought Davis was growing marijuana, and called police to turn him in. After an hour of searching and grilling by police, they left the house. "No apology, no nothing", Davis replied.

well, he was growing plants that sorta look like pot plants, and the neighbor thought he was growing pot plants, so, given that growing pot is still illegal,(BOO!), I think the cops had reasonable justification for their actions.

An apology would have been nice though, and they should pay for any damage done to his property.

OTW, while rabid libertarians will freak out and probably see this as evidence of the coming police state, I don't see this as a very big seal.

i knew an old lady who almost got jailed coz the police caught her growing weed in her back yard... only she had a few budgies and for some reason threw the bird seed in her yard... which has something to do with hemp which ended up in a garden of pot! but she had no idea... that wouldve been amazing for someone who smokes weed who intended on jumpin over the back wall, breaking an entry and stealing her microwave. hehehe

Hemp seed is present in bird feed, but the seeds are usually sterilized, so that shouldn't have happened.
Also, hemp grown randomly like that wouldn't have a lot of smoke value, plants have to be cultivated in a certain way in order to maximize the THC concentration
