I heard on TV it was due to low ticket sales

Or maybe the promoters were afraid people would record the broadcast and get them in trouble with the Really Insane Assholes Association (which, incidentally is my new name for Cary Sue and his numbskulls).

Maybe if MTV-VH1 would do what they were created to do like playing and promoting real bands like Sonic Youth, PJ Harvey, and Modest Mouse as opposed to obsessing over the ridiculous wealth, Cribs, and Bling-Bling, of rap\pop stars, maybe just maybe the word would get out about how great lollapalooza once was and could be again.

"Upon reflection, I conclude there is a story here. It is the story of a musical community under the influence. No, silly, it's not drugs. This is an influence far more damaging and threatening, as in: "They are threatening to sue us for damages." My prayer is that we live to fight another day and walk together at the victory parade. "

I wonder what they were thinking even booking these bands for a shed tour. This tour was a guaranteed bomb from day one.

If MTV and VH1 focused on bands like these they would have been off the air a long time ago. These are MTV2 bands. Do you really think the masses of people want to listen to the noise of Sonic Youth? Well, they don't.

Yeah you're right mroop our implacable scribe once again has astounded us with his eruditeness. Sure why have Sonic Youth on your station when you can have endless Real World reruns with the habitual homoerotic feel, the deathrow rappers who against the pleas of victims familles are put on with grottiest display. The simulated acts of bestiality at award shows. How about the all favorite dogs defecating on the family rug. MMM yeah what was I thinking???

Bread and circuses. Personally, I think Sonic Youth sucks and that Thurston dude is annoyingly pretentious. But my personal feelings aside, people would rather watch the garbage you cited than Sonic Youth. It's the way of the world. Nothing you can do about it. Did you ever notice how often they play that stupid Yanni concert on PBS? I guess people must enjoy watching it. Why I will never know.

It's called faineant programming and a lust for the depraved. An ominous ruination of our cultural and moral standards by the likes of Sumner Redstone, Edgar Bronfman, Andrew Lack, Alain Levy, David Geffen, Michael Eisner who feel the need to regulate every television and radio station giving us Insignificant or repetitive programming all to inflate their stock value, money their bottom line. With this host of characters it's anywonder that anti-Semitism is at it's highest in 60 years.

Sonic Youth? Morrissey? That was supposed to be the big draw? No wonder it tanked!

Too bad for Wolf Eyes tho... I know they were looking forward to it.

Whats a draw now, Britney? Snoop? Ask yourselves why Bonnarroo sold out and Lollapalooza tanked.
Advancedmroop

Bonaroo is relevant. Lollapalooza is not. The jam bands at Bonaroo tour consistently and built their followings at a grass roots level for many years - I don't recall the lineup, but some of those bands can draw 10-20K crowds each. The Lollapalooza bands individually can draw 1500-2000 each max. Although I am not into jam bands, I think the alternative scene that the jam bands have created is pretty neat. You can download live concerts here:

hey, I'm as depraved as the next guy and I grew up listening to Alice Cooper and others. The crap they put on now is trash and I've heard enough trash to be a good judge of it.

I missed this part. You never fail to get your Jew comments in. Scary. You forgot the Weinsteins who are responsible for Michael Moore's new movie. Damn Jews. If we could only get rid of them somehow.

Actually, I haven't been allowed by Industry owned media to hear any of these acts ( at least the ones mentioned in the article ), so that I can decide if I like them or not. I also have not heard any radio or TV advertising regarding this concert this year ( last year it was promoted like crazy ).
hmm, I'll go download a few samples of these guys so I will know what they're like. Not likely to hear 'em any other way.

Leflaw...I was at the meeting on time as usual.
We voted to continue controlling the world.

I keep asking where my share of the billions are, but no one responded.
I think I am an outcast at both the NWO and Zionist meetings....
Could it be my criticism of the Protocols of the Elders of Zion that got me in hot water at the meetings?

mtv sucks. they play crappy artists. MTV=BET
vh1 sucks mostly. good videos when they actually play videos. assuming the current songs are any good anyway.

Speaking of the Jewish thing, you all should check out what a norfolk city council member said in referance to them...

What's scary is that anybody rather pious Jew or not would come to the defense of the pigmedia heads that I named above. These pretentious scoundrels are the most despicable of men who live up even to the worst of stereotypes. A greedy lot who depict African-Americans as thugs, women as ho's, leaving the viewers with a vacuous view of themselves or the world around them. This bunch Sumner Redstone, Edgar Bronfman, Andrew Lack, Alain Levy, David Geffen, Michael Eisner and yes the Weinstein brothers too at the very lest hide behind copyright laws not for the artist or the love of music and sue our people with glee to enhances their already sickening wealth and at worse when their power is called into question will claim in a shameful manner anti-Semitism. A win-win situation wouldn't you say? Who use a combination of music, Hollywood, and fashion to huck their opprobrious products. Who with the use of Hollywood expose soft-core porn to our teens, With their money Corrupting our judicial and political systems. I will use a phrase these men have mocked as of late and transform it to fit my point and that's What would Moses say? With regard to your reprehensible greed, impious blasphemy, as well as your love of the perverse.

mroop "Damn Jews. If we could only get rid of them somehow.'

Funny how in South Africa from the 1940's to 80's where apartheid ruled the day and 6% ruled over the majority was looked upon by the same Pigmedia with open repugnance and a call for regime change and yet we ourselves find our nation with the same exact situation ruled in the same tyrannical fashion so where is the outrage now? Maybe in a sense we can look at ourselves as modern day Nelson Mandela's huh

Code states "I think I am an outcast at both the NWO and Zionist meetings."

This statement may be more closer to the truth than we would like. A well known secret in Washington D.C. is the power of Jewish lobbyist and their influence on our nations governmental affairs, the AIPAC comes to mind when thinking this group could have been the driving force behind our Invasion of Iraq. Just the other day former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated in comparing Iraq's Nuclear program and to the new Iranian threat finding the former Iraq being more threatening to Israel as opposed to Iran being the rest of the worlds problem.

"I'm Mexican. Can I become Jewish so folks can hate me twice."

One cannot judge the hideous actions of a few to judge the many. A perfect example are al-Qaida's deplorable beheadings of foreigners as of late. Can we judge the actions of the Wretched Bin Laden as an act all Muslims take part in? Of course not. Men who take it upon themselves to decapitate humanbeings, who sue 12 year old girls, or bully 80 year old women out of their lifesaving fall under the same thing regardless of nationality or faith. All fall under the title of Tyrants....

But many of the people fighting FOR the cause are jewish too. And to further the stereotype, it's about being smart and articulate.

Reminds me of Mad magazine - jew vs. jew.

carla you're correct in saying that pious Jews are also joining the fight with the rest of us and that's partly my point. I welcome everyone anyone!!! who can help us in our cause against pigmedia. But please lets not for one second let truth be a causality in our war with these slugs. I knowingly point out who our enemies are by name and background and bring the facts to the table. If veracity is my crime and makes me a racist than let it. I'm an ACLU member and I'm fully well aware of my First Amendment rights. Even the implacable scribe mroop has an understanding of this...or should. Our fight for basic rights are half our battle.

dreddsnik2 - great to see atheists (or at least people who have rejected the big 5, heh) around and kicking (nothing against those with "faith", as it were). It's unfortunate that so many are blind to reality because of continued traditions that go against intellligence (moral values are good, though).

OK, time for me to go on topic once in my life.
Most of the draws are lower level draws for audience (esp. for RIAA bands, which most, if not all, are)
pixies - novelty
flaming lips - hasn't that worn off yet?
von bondies - nobody likes since jack white doesn't seem to
modest mouse - a bit too southern for most, they're just 'ok' imo
Spearhead - weak band, apparantly with a following. Franti heads with a leftist looking thing, novelty band type
polyphonic spree - weird inbetween band (punk rock by an orchestral band & chorus)
sonic youth - aren't they fading?

STS9 - not bad, on archive.org

I'll abstain from commenting on the others due to lack of knowledge.

Clarification: Pixies - Novelty REUNION
