PINGS AND SCANS
Posted by AdminCodeWarrior in on May 27, 2004 at 9:02 AM

One of the staff had added logos from the RIAA and the DOJ onto some articles as images. When your computer tried to load the images, since the link was respectively to the RIAA and the DOJ, as Wayshot discovered using Protowall, it was an outgoing attempt and this was all the information I needed to believe that Wayshot was right.

I have replaced the images with some stored on another server than the original source, and this should fix all those pings.

If the pings continue now, please let us know.

A BIG SHOUT OUT TO WAYSHOT and BEST WISHES FOR HIS CCNA EXAM!

Damn, I'm getting famous :-) (Smile)

When I saw all the reports of people getting "scanned" when visiting this site, I felt I just had to clear up this issue, the fact that PeerGuardian also blocks outgoing connection attempts. Hopefully, there will be less paranoia by now, and people will visit the site without having the fear of evil companies trying to access the computer.

I'll be heading down to the academy now. I'm gonna fiddle around a bit with the Cisco routers and switches in the lab, in preparation for the CCNA test tomorrow.

I was getting this too, but glad it was fixed. I figured it out as it was from an image linked from the DOJ website.

So now when the people at those servers check their logs or activity report they will see they get a lot of traffice from boycott-riaa.

Zheldon: What they will see, is that some image files have been loaded frequently, with http://www.boycott-riaa.com as referrer.
