We know that a lot of rock musicians only became stars after a name change.
Ringo of course was Richard Starkey.
Sting was Gordon Matthew Sumner
.
Prince started life as Prince Rogers Nelson .
John Cougar Mellencamp, was John Mellencamp..then "Johnny Cougar" ...then
Johnny Cougar Mellencamp.
Davie Bowie was David Jones.
Even Managers changed their names. The famous Colonel Tom Parker, Svengali to
Elvis, had the real name of Andreas Cornelius van Kujik.
I found a cool page with the real names of lots of famous people in music.
It's located at
http://www.classicbands.com/realnames.html .
Sometimes, just a minor change seems to do the trick. Dionne Warrick hit the big time when she became Dionne Warwick...one letter change. In a similar vein, the average name of Sam Cook, became the handle of a big star when he became Sam Cooke.
Adam Ant's real name is Stuart Leslie Goddard .
One of my favorites is English pop star Cliff Richard , whose real name
is "Harry Webb"...and I think he could have stuck with his real name and
had an album cover of a hairy spider perched atop a hair covered web...but
that's just me, I'm not an A & R guy or manager.
Anyway, the page is interesting and fun to me.
Check it out...

What kinda name do you think might project you into the stratosphere of stardom?
Remember, Engelbert Humperdinck started life as the lowly Arnold George Dorsey
and Paul Revere (of Paul Revere and the Raiders) was born as Paul Revere Dick :)
