The Songs That Touch Your Heart
Posted by AdminCodeWarrior in on April 27, 2004 at 10:15 AM

Sometimes I think we focus too much on the RIAA and not enough on
promoting great music.

I thought I would start mine off with my top five.

1) Crazy World - by our very own TOM BARGER (Tomsong) new song/duet
2) Fool If You Think It's Over-Chris Rea
3) Philosopher's Stone - Van Morrison
4) Yesterday - McCartney/Beatles
5) Have I Told You Lately That I Love You- Van Morrison

OK, that's mine, what's yours?

What songs really touch your heart and soul?

How about Chainsaw Charlie by WASP, or Kill the Music Industry by Cold? Or, if you must be serious---My Eyes Have Seen You by the Doors, Sweet Mistakes by Ellis Paul, I Alone by Live, Twilight Zone by Golden Earring, and about 500 more...depending on the mood I'm in.

The mood I'm in these days, I actually play Annihilated's "Checkmate RIAA" a lot--love the music and the message...

My favorite music has been tainted by the knowledge that even mentioning it promotes the RIAA.

You should never let them get you down. Have a little faith, if not for yourself, then for your children. The only way they can really win is if we all give up. (I know it sounds goofy, but I do believe it--I was at an impressionable age in the 60's, and never got over it.)

It wasn't until I came to this site that I fully realized the extent of damage the record labels do and have done to music everywhere. I may hate what the RIAA stands for but I just can't make myself hate the music I've listened to for 30 years.

HammerofJustice,

Boycott buying new cds; No reason not to buy used cds, the riaa makes nothing on those. And by all means, don't boycott the many ftp servers willing to provide you all the music, riaa and non riaa that you care to leech.
DMemberHammerofJustice
Date: April 27, 2004 @ 1:30 PM
hehe, no I am not really a fan of p2p to each his own I guess, and yeah should have clarified, I do purchase used CD's on Ebay.
DMemberstevebugge

Some favorites:

Sea of No Cares - Great Big Sea
The Riddle - Gigi D'Agostino remake of the Nik Kershaw tune
Escape - Journey
Kid Charlemagne - Steely Dan
Volcano - Jimmy Buffet

And lots of others, a lot with RIAA Labels so if you are unfamiliar with a song I'd be happy to try to get a good rip and email it to you. Hey RIAA do you call that word of mouth advertising or Copyright Infringement?
IntermediateRaidHHI
Date: April 27, 2004 @ 1:40 PM
I've never intentionally used any p2p applications for myself. None of my computers have ever seen these programs. I was talking about ftp; not p2p. :) (Smile) FTP is a protocol that's almost as old as the net itself. But old doesn't make it outdated.

For those who are boycotting, if you willingly give up your music, be it riaa or non riaa; they are winning. If you want to make a dent (and I've said something like this before) just don't buy new cds that are riaa affliated, download them instead. Turning yourself off of the music with the silly, "well; it's riaa, so it sounds bad" is laughable, and it shows that they still 0wn you.

Some of you are obviously not giving up the music you like, whether or not it's riaa affiliated and I applaud you for this. Those of you who have deleted songs you love simply because of who owns it, are giving into the riaa; and you don't even realize it.

Indie music i'm sure is great, I've listened to some, and bought a cd or two of it; But it's not going to stop me from downloading music I like that isn't indie either. I will not give into the riaa, and I don't suggest you do either! Boycott, fine; Buy used cds, they make nothing! from those sales, but why screw yourself out of music you like just because the riaa owns it? it's akin to shooting your foot off because you don't like a toe.

OMFG. Did Z'man just post his favorite RIAA songs? I cannot believe this. Do you people know just what a momentous occasion this is? George, I don't know what to say. My jaw is dropping. I don't know what prompted you to do this, but I am SO EXCITED that you did.

I have to agree 100% with Raid. If you stop acknowledging the music you grew up with and love, the RIAA wins.

George, I don't expect you to change your position on this at all, but I salute you for taking this step. And BTW, some great choices there, bro. Thumbs Up :)) (Very Happy)
