Analysts also have referred to the international aspect of free file-trading, where services and users might be out of reach of legal prosecution.
Goodman said that the anonymity of free services is likely to continue improving, perhaps to the point where the application and file trading are totally anonymous.
Rainey agreed that new free file-trading models are likely to emerge and then copyright owners such as the RIAA will change their aim in an ongoing "arms race."
"The technology side of this story is very organic; it's changing and there will be new ways for people to share music for free online," Rainey said. "I don't have a sense yet of where this is going to end up."

I had in mind a completely different article that could have the same headline.
I know the RIAA has changed my perception of the industry, as well as my desire to be a part of it and the level of respect I have for those who are.
Permanently.
Ignorance was bliss.

I'm still waiting for them to cross the wrong person with a lawsuit. with all the massive seapoenas flying around it's a matter of time. BTW Code, George or anyone, has there been any development on the legal front? a few months ago there were a number of court challanges to the industry - Charter, Verizon, the lady who is sueing them under Rico and many others. haven't heard a word on any of them except for the recent story of the industry canceling the amnisty policy. Just curious

The legal system is doggedly slow. I'm not aware of anything interesting happening since December.

Does anyone subscribe to RealOne? The final story last evening on World News Tonight with Peter Jennings was about filesharing and the RIAA claims. The conclusion: downloading has ZERO effect on music sales.
The BS put out by the RIAA is finally being challenged.

In pre-9/11 days the power brokers wanted the right to read our digital goings on at will, obstensibly because of "all" the perverts out there...now the RIAA is riding the shirt tails of the anti-terrorism wave/movement, whatever. They want to know what we're doing and saying to each other at all times. They're just too lazy to open up our Postal mail...in other words, if individuals in the Government weren't nervous about exactly what we're "up to", this site probably wouldn't even exist or need to, and most folks wouldn't even know what RIAA meant. Terrorism has turned out to have been a great thing for the RIAA.
