Metallica's Future Not With Record Label?
(Source: Blabbermouth.net)

METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich recently told Launch Radio Networks that the band plan on examining their options with regards to record distribution once they have fulfilled their present contract with Elektra Records (METALLICA have one album left on their current record contract).

"You know, our record contract is up soon (laughs) and we'll figure out what we're gonna do after that," he said. "You know, the great thing about being in a band like us is that we're in a position to bypass the record company. Basically record companies act like banks. And when you don't need the bank element of a record company, then you can kind of do it yourself. So we'll sort of see where it goes."

METALLICA have been signed to Elektra Records since 1984. The band are currently on the first leg of their 2004 North American headlining tour, which will take them well into October.

I thought this maybe interesting. If Metallica is no longer an RIAA artist, does one continue to boycott them for being as whiny as they are? Thought you guys may find this interesting...

There might be some hope still left in the band afterall, soon as they break away from the lables completely.

..and of course kick out that traitor who helped down napster!

They made it big by throwing their lot in with the industry and attacking their fans. Now they want to go indie? when they start helping indie bands and denounce their anti customer attitude then mabey I'll consider stopping my boycott of them....... nawwwwww

Lars Ulrich is resposible for attacking his fans. i will continue to boycott him until he publicly apologises to his fans for calling them all thieves.

Or maybe the rest of the band got together and beat some sense into Lars.

I only have two Metallica albums actually bought at the store, but only because my ex-girlfriend bought them for me, so they didn't get MY money (tee hee, tee hee). The rest, I either copied or downloaded. Sure, it makes me sound hipocritical, but I don't care. They don't have a dime of my money.

I tend to use the song "Shoot Me Again" to think of the anti-RIAA movement. No matter how many times the RIAA and their ilk try to shoot us down, we'll never die.

The biggest RAT abandoning ship? Nah, go on down with it Lars. No lifeboat for you.

Basically, their last album sucked so bad, they're being dropped by their label. Elektra will allow them to fulfill the contract with a "greatest shit" album. They should have stayed true to Metal and not gone pop. Dave Mustaine is laughing his ass off now. Metallipop made more money, but Dave is still Metal.

Metallica has been a sellout since " And Justice For All" so it's been over a decade and a half.... Dave Mustaine left that band and started a much better one!!!
