Score one for the good guys!

In this battle we are fighting there are big wins and small wins. I just wanted to spread the word of a small win...

The other day I ran across an indie label I hadn't heard of, Platinum Globe Entertainment. They had a band "PSS" and a song called big leagues that I really liked. However, the album was listed as "unknown" on the radar. I decided to hunt them down and learn their real status.

It turns out that they are a newly founded label. As such, they thought that it was only appropriate to join the RIAA. The RIAA in their usual responsiveness hadn't bothered to respond to their request for membership information.

I managed to contact the label president Eric Mbiu on their new forums, and left him some information about the boycott and some other words on the RIAA's evil deeds. Low and behold! He was both receptive of our message and supportive of our cause. On the spot he decided to forsake the RIAA and return to the side of good and light. You can read the exchange here:

As no good deed should go unpunished. :-) I think it would be great if everyone took five seconds and tagged the above thread with a friendly greeting. It was great to see that RIAA logo come off their web site! Let's show them a little LOVE!

That will last until the label has an artist that hits gold or platinum. They'll accept it, and get added to the list....

They need the "street cred" to sell gold ...we are the street.

These smaller independent labels who are starting out have a prediciment. When they reach a certain level of sales with an artist or two... (let's say "gold" for example,) they fall under increasing economic pressure to sell themselves to the bigger labels. The RIAA don't want a bunch of mid sized fish in the pond because it would give the consumer more choice.

To the new label: Nice decision. Its better to depend on the new distribution channels(aka Internet), where U and the people in general control what is distributed than to depend on a big fish mood that will only publish your stuff if you´re a Britney Spears Look-a-like.

U made the right decision, and to reflect that, I, as a consumer will check out if I like your stuff right away.

This is great news! I also hope this is a beginning to a new trend for new artists.
