You left off some of the best parts!

The SXSW music festival announced that they will be providing all of their music for free downloading. They are also sponsoring free WiFi points all over Austin to use for downloading the music. Pretty sweet move!

At the moment, they have an internet radio stream running that I'm listening to using iTunes. It should work with WinAmp and other progs as well.

They say 600+ songs are available using the iTunes sharing feature. (This is NOT the store feature.) All tunes are DRM free.

They also have many songs available in their artist showcase on the web site. The songs are available in MP3 and OGG format!

The radio is at the top right.
The downloads are on each artist's page.
The iTunes sharing info is in the bottom right.

So, assuming that I am the average guy off the street, there is one minor thing missing from this.

Just exactly what is SXSW?

South by Southwest is an Austin based film and music festival, showcasing and previewing cutting edge musical and film related activities.
There are indie and some "name" groups doing music in large and small venues around town...it may be thought as the Central Texas version of the Cann Film Festival, combined with Redford's film festival...with lots of music thrown in for good measure....

A lot of times, we get people like Todd Rundgren come and do the keynote speech.

It costs money though :( (Frown)

Lots of "panels" and "trade shows". Is it some kind of A&R shark hunting ground?

it's not just that George,...sure A&R people could descend on em...but it is more of an audio and film festival where all kinds of art can be showcased...

It's Indie a lot...but indie in the sense of the next generation stars in their discovery stage...Robert Rodriguez started here and has been at past events...directors, film makers, artists, musicians...you name it.

L'il Richard...
Little Richard To Keynote And Perform At SXSW Music 2004
The South By Southwest Music and Media Conference and Festival is proud to announce our keynote speaker and headline performer, the architect, the originator, the one true creator of rock and roll, Little Richard.

The SXSW audience will welcome Little Richard as he delivers the traditional opening speech of the conference on Thursday March 18 at 10:30 AM in the Austin Convention Center. This speech marks the beginning of three days of panels, workshops and meetings that draw musicians and music professionals from around the world to the renowned music conference.

Little Richard and his band will perform on Thursday March 18 as headliners at the BMI showcase at the Austin Music Hall. The 2004 South By Southwest Music Festival boasts an incredible array of talent, with over 1000 performances on over 50 stages over five days.

The Georgia Peach still performs on a regular basis, delivering by all reports as energizing a show as ever. The history of rock and roll was changed forever with the danger and the wildness that Little Richard embodies. His songs are the template of rock, inspiring countless fans and artists in his wake.
