"According to law officers, Mathers was hysterical when police arrived and told them that she killed her boyfriend only after he accused her of illegally downloading music and erased about 2,000 of her MP3s. Mathers complained that it took 3 months to build her music collection."
"An autopsy performed Friday afternoon at Methodist Hospital showed that Brad Pulaski had been beat multiple times in the face and chest by a blunt metal object, and died of internal bleeding, said Dr. Felix Klamut, deputy coroner."
"According to Apple’s website, the iPod is partially made of a hard metal plate that’s been praised for it’s resistance to regular wear and tear, like drops and coffee spills."

I myself already wondred if we wouldn't eventually see news like this poping up, thanks in not small part (I'm sure) to the recording industry's attempts to make everyone paranoid about all downloading, digital files, and the internet in general. It wouldn't take such a big leap to say that it could push people who already have mental problems or are so far gone, to go to extremes.

Too bad it wasn't because she found out that they were going to be sued. Then the blame could be aimed directly at the RIAA... one can only hope...

Geeez...condoloences to the husband's friends and family...on a human level this is really tragic....
HOWEVER...
I think it does support my month's long claim that the RIAA should be considered "domestic terrorists" because, in this case at least, it seems their actions could be seen (by some)as the proximate cause of this homicide...using the " but for " argument...
i.e., "But for" the terroristic actions of the RIAA, the boyfriend would not have been terrified that she had downloaded songs, would not have erased them, and she would not have killed him in a fit of passion...
OK..they lawyers will tear me apart on that one...BUT....
I think the reasonable person on the street could reasonably make this connection...
Murder by a high tech MP3 storage and playback device...ONLY IN THE 21ST CENTURY...

The thing to laugh at is the ad under Related News at the site this came from.
"RELATED NEWS
Get great deals on the new Apple iPod mini. Starting at under $250"
Click here to buy this weapon! The same that was used in this murder, but smaller and more convenient! The cops won't even mistakenly shoot you thinking you have a gun! Hehe.

That is really sad. He probably freaked out that they were going to be suedby the RIAA. And she couldn't make him understand that what she did was not illegal. So stressful.

Economists have written of the economic affects of the RIAA and they were seen as left wing ideas. Now we have undeniable evidence of the negative social affects.

I wish I could feel more sympathy for the dead boyfriend, (self-righteous prick) but I can understand this woman being really pissed off. Especially during PMS. Or taking angel dust. But how the hell can an I-pod cause that much injury? She stabbed him with it? Something doesn't ring true about this story.

I would think the RIAA's perspective
on this would be:
"Well she can't download any
music in prison...that's one down
59,999,99 downloaders to go"

We are an oppressed minority.
If you download music, and someone disrespects, threatens, or assaults you -- or destroys your precious MP3s, it should be judged a "hate crime." With extra penalties for the perpetrator.
I applaud this woman. She fought back against the haters!

It's a joke, guys. It's a liquid generation site... check all the CNN-style links along the left hand of the page. I think the "Business Traveler" link goes to "This Page Cannot Get Laid."
Also, the picture is of the police taking a body out of a convenience store somewhere (see where it says "store").
Still funny, but let's not go trying to hire this woman for the downhillbattle.org PSA.

halfwit very good eye. I thought it was too weird to be true. I went there to check and when you click on home you get a weird website that spews popups and loops back on it self not letting you use the back button. never occured to me to check that out. Perhaps we need to make sure these stories are labeled as a parody, joke etc.

More of the parody:
This page cannot get laid.
The page you are looking for cannot get laid and so it's currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing gas, genital warts or may need to put on sexy lingerie and adjust its browser settings.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Please try the following:
Try to hit on the Refresh button, or try again later after this Web site is drunk.
If you typed the page address in the Address bar, make sure that it is spelled correctly and you’re not so damn horny that you left out a letter or two.
To check your connection settings, lick the Tool menu, and then tongue Internet Options. On the Connections tab, dry hump Settings. The settings should match those of a man that's old, naked and hairy, just like your local area network (PERV) administrator or Internet Service Provider (ASS).
If your Netwerk Administrator is a horn dog, Microsoft Windows can striptease for your network and automatically get you excited.
If you would like windows to get you horny, you can discover your netwerk connection settings by clicking Dance Baby Dance!
Some sites require that 128-bit connection security but not this one. We use The Club. Click the Help menu and then click About Internet Explorer if you have trouble looking at porn.
If you’re trying to buy blow-up dolls, nudie magazines, hot oils and such, make sure your Security settings can support it. Master the Tool menu, and then bate Internet Options. If you’re more advanced, roll your tongue across the Security section and bark like a dog. Yeah, that’s it. You’re turning me on now.
Kiss my Booty to try another link.

Parody or not, it shows the potential for the inflammatory, hate-mongering rhetoric from the likes of Orrin "Down-the-" Hatch and Lamar Smith leading to something like that.
If there were true justice in the world, those in power like Hatch and Smith who condone the RIAA's evil, cruel, inhuman, merciless street-thug tactics would be nailed for incitement to commit violence.
Because the next time could be even worse . . .
