With over 200 songs to look at and digitalise Sloopy Box Music intend dropping material onto DMusic through the various folders Million Miles, Groovy Music 1, Groovy Music 2, Butterfly Years, Killer Klassics and the Box Studio Sessions 1976 a rehearsal where someone inadvertently switched on an old tape machine and here it is ,a few Klassics never heard before outside Hastings UK including a Lennon/McCartney cover, 6 out of 18 tracks destined for the Box Studios Sessions cd later in 2004.
Richard Hoblyn writes....
Formed by Jim Penfold in Hastings UK in 1976 the original line-up of The Hollywood Killers never achieved the success they so richly deserved. The Box Studio Sessions recently unearthed combined the spirit of the band with the clear paradoxes taking place in the rock music scene in the mid-70’s. Jim’s influences are clearly heard on this gem of recordings; from his family connections in theatre and vaudeville (his tag as Gentleman Jim is easily recognisable on Sand Dancing In The Dunes) to Carlos Santana (All I Wanna Do), Marc Bolan (Heavenly Dove vs.The Buggies In Blue), David Bowie, Led Zeppelin, Bonzo Dog Doodah Band (Lady), The Doors, Bob Marley (See The Light In My Eyes) whilst showing the frustrations of songwriters during this radical period when the long heat of the hottest summer on record (Hot Hazy Days) metamorphised into a new wave energy that can be heard on Unknown Person and the two Lennon/McCartney covers (Lady Madonna/I Wanna Hold Your Hand). Later line-ups of the band deal with the punk/new wave phenomenon.
This cd should have something for everybody. Enjoy! More to follow on www.hollywoodkillers.net or contact info@hollywoodkillers.net
