FCC Jumps Into Bared Breast Flap
Posted by AdminCodeWarrior in on February 2, 2004 at 5:32 PM

"(CBS/AP) The chief U.S. government regulator of broadcasting said Monday he was outraged by the Super Bowl halftime show in which Justin Timberlake tore off part of Janet Jackson's costume, exposing her breast, and said he was ordering an immediate investigation.

Timberlake blamed a "wardrobe malfunction," but Federal Communications Commission chief Michael Powell called it "a classless, crass and deplorable stunt."

MTV, which produced the show, and CBS, which broadcast it, both said they had no idea that their halftime show Sunday night would include such a display.

"CBS deeply regrets the incident," spokeswoman LeslieAnne Wade said.

The two singers were performing a flirtatious duet to end the halftime show, with Timberlake singing, "Rock Your Body," and the lines he sang at the moment of truth were: "I'm gonna have you naked by the end of this song."

With that, Timberlake reached across Jackson's leather gladiator outfit and pulled off the covering to her right breast, which was partially obscured by a sun-shaped, metal nipple decoration.

The network quickly cut away from the shot, and did not mention the exposure on the air.

In a statement, Powell said, "I am outraged at what I saw during the halftime show of the Super Bowl. Like millions of Americans, my family and I gathered around the television for a celebration. Instead, that celebration was tainted by a classless, crass and deplorable stunt. Our nation's children, parents and citizens deserve better."

He told the commission to open an investigation, promising it would be "thorough and swift." Such an investigation could result in a fine of up to $27,500 or — if the FCC applied the sanction to each CBS station — in the millions. "

FCC Commissioner Copps has been on a rampage against obscenity a long time. And I don't see that its too difficult to go out into the country and find citizens in the outreach panels who are frustrated with bad television. At the earlier time, Pwoell was bitching, "Haven't they heard of the First Amendement?" He's referring to Copps and Adelstein. I suppose Powell's extreme ideaology would nromally tell him, "Get the government out of speech."

However, all five commissioners voted to impose huge fines on radio station recently. I suppose Powell sees the advantage of jumping on a populist wave and "I hate what's on televison!" That's a no-brainer, everyone grasps that concept, in this age of reality programming. And it is nowhere more demonstrated than the Super Bowl bringing all the convergence of advertising and msuic togetehr in one mess of the RIAA, Pepsi,iTunes, Bush, and boobs.

That's no place for the MoveOn ad is it?

I have told Adelstein repeatedly he is headed for a buzz-saw in Hollywood when preaching censoship. I consider it a smoke screen and a complete waste of time, and somehow in the larger picture, falling right in line with Hatch and pornography initiatives.

Fuck censorship.

Which he's going to use to further his argument for censoring broadcasts, giving individuals like himself more power. Definitely compmore, this was just another shameless stunt by the recording industry to compensate for their lackluster "artists."

The Super Bowl is classles and crass

My god. Next thing you know the game will be four hours long because using viewers as marketing guinea pigs will trump the purpose of the event in the first place - to play the game. After that, people won't even remember the game, just the commercials. If this doesn't stop, the game will end up being third priority behind classless and crass halftime shows. I hope that they continue getting the most talented singers in the world to sing our national anthem in front of the entire planet. Oh wait..

Powell is an idiot. He waits until now to complain about lack of class because his child saw a boob? Screw off.

I hate to inform those of you using this as a opportunity to bash the Bush administration that it was Tipper Gore who started the PMRC and tried to ban Rock and Rap. It was also Joe Lieberman who threatened to destroy the rap industry. I do agree with standards on network TV because there are cable networks for unfiltered viewing. Some of us want to reserve the right to monitor what our children see. A football game should be safe veiwing.

Here you go......quote by Rush Limbaugh today on his radio program......"If it were easy, everybody could do it, and I'm telling you, everybody can grab their crotch and everybody can bare a boob and everybody can put a silver spider on the boob and everybody can lip sync a song that somebody else recorded in a studio to cover up the fact you can't really sing, everybody could do that. Look at the popularity of karaoke. You know, you just don't see any general talent. The music business wonders why it's in trouble, take a look at that halftime show. I mean the music business is hurting, is it not? It's hurting real bad. It's hurting real bad because they're plucking people with no talent because they've got some sort of look or appeal, and Janet and Justin sell records. That's my whole point. They sell records, but there's nothing else to buy, unless you want to go out and buy oldies and stuff. "

I think it DOES point directly to the record companies.........

churchkey,

In Code's defense, calling a breast a tit doesn't exploit anyone. It may be demeaning to women, but even at that, it is a small percentage of woman who actually suffer from the same language complex as you.

If you would like to talk about exploitation and "tits", then you might consider watching a tape of the halftime show yesterday evening. Janet Jackson is the one who is guilty of contributing to the exploitation of women in general, and she's a female - just like her brother.

Proof that in many ways, the RIAA / MPAA etc. agenda is tied in to the radical, One-World "socialist-lite" Left agenda of control through usurpation of our freedoms, intrusion into Our Daily Lives, and other insidious types of what amounts to social engineering. That plus this intentional debasement of our culture as manifested here.

And yet the FCC still plans to foist the Bolshevik "broadcast flag" on all of us per the dictates of these same multinational entertainment-media conglomerates who shoved this latest piece of junk down the public's throats? Not to mention that the same entities who "sponsored" this halftime show (i.e. Time Warner, who have contributed huge sums to both John Kerry and Howard Dean) is so hot on forcing DRM and its variants onto us against our will.

I am offended by these women that feel that they have to "be all that" which is to seek attention with their bodies instead of their brains. They are nothing but exibitionists run by the media which in turn is fuled by the human nature of man with NOVELTY. Thes women are CRUDE & base. I will not defend them in the name of Free speach. First off churchkey, I am sorry you are / or were offended, and I did not intend to offend you or anyone who is a member, however; I feel if you had a broader understanding of the history of the word "tit", you would understand why I used that word, which has greater specificity in my opinion, than the word "breast". Please allow me to elaborate.

Actually churchkey..the words "tit" and even older, "teat" have long been considered proper terms for describing that portion of the female anatomy...breast is more of a general term for the anatomical region of the upper anterior/ ventral aspect of the torso.

Mammary glands are only a portion of the female breast region, and are modified sebaceous glands.

Now, from dictionary.com, we find these meanings for "breast"
"breast ( P ) Pronunciation Key (brst)
n.

Either of two milk-secreting, glandular organs on the chest of a woman; the human mammary gland.
A corresponding organ in other mammals.
A corresponding rudimentary gland in the male.

The superior ventral surface of the human body, extending from the neck to the abdomen.
A corresponding part in other animals.
The part of a garment that covers the chest.
The seat of affection and emotion: “Griefs of mine own lie heavy in my breast” (Shakespeare).
A source of nourishment.
Something likened to the human breast: the breast of a hill.
The face of a mine or tunnel"

As you can see, breast is not specific for the paired members of the female anatomy....it can refer to the male as well...thus, not as specific..

Some consider tit [ Middle English, from Old English titt.] to be a vulgar slang term..and indeed, so does Dictionary.com, which gives this meaning...
"tit2 ( P ) Pronunciation Key (tt)
n.
Vulgar Slang. A woman's breast.
A teat. "

"Regional Note: Tit is an old Germanic word for “small” and is used in various northern European languages to refer to small objects, animals, or people, especially girlsfor example, titta is a Norwegian dialect word for “little girl.”

From Merriam Webster Online we find :
"Main Entry: 1tit
Pronunciation: 'tit
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English, from Old English -- more at TEAT
1 : TEAT
2 usually vulgar : BREAST -- usually used in plural "

So, what is "teat"
One entry found for teat.

Main Entry: teat
Pronunciation: 'tit, 'tEt
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English tete, from Old French, of Germanic origin; akin to Old English tit teat, Middle High German zitze
1 : the protuberance through which milk is drawn from an udder or breast : NIPPLE
2 : a small projection or a nib (as on a mechanical part)
- teat·ed /'ti-t&d, 'tE-/ adjective "

So far, tit is the most specific term, though it has more than one meaning as well...

We keep seeing this word "vulgar"...
though many have come to believe vulgar means bad...originally it referred to the word "common" , as meaning the common people, as opposed to the effete nobility...
(see the word vulgate )
"Main Entry: vul·gar
Pronunciation: 'v&l-g&r
Function: adjective
Etymology: Middle English, from Latin vulgaris of the mob, vulgar, from volgus, vulgus mob, common people
1 a : generally used, applied, or accepted b : understood in or having the ordinary sense
2 : VERNACULAR
3 a : of or relating to the common people : PLEBEIAN b : generally current : PUBLIC c : of the usual, typical, or ordinary kind
4 a : lacking in cultivation, perception, or taste : COARSE b : morally crude, undeveloped, or unregenerate : GROSS c : ostentatious or excessive in expenditure or display : PRETENTIOUS
5 a : offensive in language : EARTHY b : lewdly or profanely indecent
synonym see COMMON, COARSE
- vul·gar·ly adverb "

But, I want to be the least offensive I can be...so I am not satisfied with the imprecise "breast", nor the "vulgar" tit...or the older word, teat...
so, I have a better word to use...
mamma...NOT MOMMA...MAMMA...

"mamma-
A glandular organ for secreting milk, characteristic of all mammals, but usually rudimentary in the male; a mammary gland; a breast; under; bag.

Origin: L. Mamma breast."

So, in honor of those whom I may have offended...please allow me to slip into a higher level of political correctness....

The modified comment shall read thusly...
"lol...I think that big old CBS eye must have been zooming in on Janet's right mamma, which is to say, the region of Ms. Jackson's ventral upper torso, proximal to the right shoulder joint..including but not limited to that region containing her right mammary glands, her pectoralis major and minor muscles.

Thus, we that explanation, I do regret that any male or female was offended by my use of the word "TIT"...as the intention was not to offend...and my use comes from being such a coarse and uneducated person as I am.

< Bows and begs the forgiveness of all >

By the way... according to Janet...it's "Miss Jackson if you're nasty"...(From NASTY BOYS, the song)...

"I'm not a prude (no)
I just want some respect (that's right)
So close the door if you want me to respond (ooh ooh yeah)
'Cause privacy is my middle name
My last name is Control
No my first name ain't baby

And in that context breasts become sexual objects.. tits,jugs,boobs,etc.. I wouldn't care except the primary function of these BREASTS is to feed babies.. yep, it's true. But guys being guys, I guess.. just gotta put their personal hard-ons to real or imaginary objects.. no matter how exaggerated.. and some poor girls think to be popular.. ie, to be laid the most?? they gotta conform and shock, I guess. I don’t mind euphemisms for breast in the proper context. And describing Janet’s appendage as a tit seems appropriate. An inappropriate use was when a former boyfriend referred to someone’s illness as tit cancer. Now that was insensitive. He said that’s the way they talk on the golf course. Eeeuuuwww.

IMHO, the incident was inappropriate for the time, place and audience, considering that youngsters and families may have been watching. Because, frankly, I think it was a little hot. If you buy into the fantasy of younger-man Justin getting aggressive with hot-teaser Janet. (I often have the mentality of an adolescent male.) This is ok for a music video, but not the tv family hour.

And “wardrobe malfunction” is the funniest phrase I’ve ever heard.

Not to continue this useless subtopic, but...

'Tit' is just a word. There are LOTS of words that certain people take offence to. I met a girl once who took offence to the word "moist", even when I was referring to a cake... Go figure.

The point is, saying 'tit', or showing one on national TV, hurts NO ONE! I dare anyone to give me one example of someone who was hurt simply by seeing a pop star's nipple. Little Johnny Mc Average Kid isn't going to join the clan because of a "wardrobe malfunction". (unless his family is wacko and he thinks he's going to Hell... That creates more psychos than anything...)

Censorship is wrong. You can't make laws surrounding opinions. Unfortunetly for me, I live in the United States of America, where lying about a consensual BJ gets more people wound up that bombing innocent people (both refering to Clinton, BTW.) A land of the "free" and home of the prisons overcrowded with people who posessed marijuana, while Big Oil and other criminal corporations pollute the air and water sit back and laugh as they pay off the government from their comfortable homes without fear of being tried for their many crimes. For the people, and BY the people (as long as they aren't Arab, Black, poor, or homosexuals who love each other, or voters in Florida)...

With all the evil things going on in the world today, you know what offends me? It's not being called a "liberal", or a "damn hippie", or a "unpatriotic queer", and certainly not the word "tit"... It's that money buys laws, and the RIAA has the money, and instead of a national outcry against that, we have all this to-do about a bared breast on TV for 2 seconds... And about someone calling it a "tit"... That's the most offensive thing of all, in my opinion.

The wardrobe malfunction story is a blatant lie. The official excuse is that JT was supposed to tear off the leather part and leave a red bra.

But if you look at the photo in the Washington Post (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A6870-2004Feb2.html), you'll see Mr. Timber still holding the infamous cup which, as we can see because the inside of it is to the camera, is merely edged with something red.

With John's song "Girl," it is typical Lennon. In it he is talking about that special girl, the one we all are looking for. At the time he wrote this, he was opposed to Christianity, and according to Lennon, he is attacking catholic values, using thinly disguised mixtures of lust and disgust. Also, if you listen to the background words, you'll hear the word, "tit," many times over. Lennon said that he needed a filler word, and this was a good as any other. It was recorded on November 11, 1965.

Still you don't regret a single day, Ah, girl, girl, girl

When I think of all the times I tried to hard to leave her

She will turn to me and start to cry, And she promises the earth to me and I believe her,

After all this time I don't know why, Ah, girl, girl, girl

She's the kind of girl who puts you down when friends are there you feel a fool

(tit, tit, tit, tit, tit, tit, tit, tit, tit, tit, tit, tit, tit, tit, tit, tit, tit, tit, tit, tit, tit, tit)

When you say she's looking good, she acts as if it's understood

(tit, tit, tit, tit, tit, tit, tit, tit, tit, tit, tit, tit, tit, tit, tit, tit, tit, tit, tit, tit, tit, tit)

She's cool, ooh, oo, oo, oo, girl, girl, girl

The oddest John Lennon song is Run For Your Life also on Rubber Soul. Talk about your psycho stalkers.
